Hey Shaq went to grammar school in Bayonne one year (saw his report card) and lived in Newark but we never think of him as a New Jerseyan.

Louisiana is not very good, but there are some decent players. Mullins is a rookie and doing great in MLS after a fantastic college career.
Lapira was a big time college player, but at this point, he's a nobody, out of soccer after his time in the Norwegian second division and India. Ireland captied him, but I don't think that's going to have any real impact on us or the Irish

There are only two current soccer players playing professionally from Louisiana. Mullins and Justin Portillo of the USL.
Portillo won't make a WC, Mullins has a shot if he keeps it up.

Some decent teams at the top end of the pool.
If you want to find the most competitive youth leagues in the country, you look at the major metro areas with large suburban populations - Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, etc.
Louisiana teams typically fall flat against the best from Houston or Dallas, for example. It is a matter of playing the best available competition game in and game out. But the top tier Louisiana teams can compete with anyone.

I think the guy you are talking about when to St Louis in LC and then Notre Dame. I don't think he's played for Ireland.
edit and I'd be wrong.

Kreis wasn't on the '98 team. And yes he wasn't born here, but he grew up in Mandeville.
