I think they are talking to him considering they are part of the leadership council.

As for Steffan, Turner was the correct choice but not bringing Steffan at all (and I think Steffan is at least a top 3 US GK) could have consequences for the vibes down the road.

There's always someone that gets left off a world cup roster. Steffen playing like shite for the last year is the reason, not because Gregg was trying to preserve the vibes.

I missed that they were part of the leadership council. Admittedly I’ve only followed the story on my phone and quickly read the story so I may have missed that. I just saw Long and Yedlin spoke to him and chuckled at the thought of them speaking to Reyna.

I thought I read somewhere during the WC that some players were questioning why Reyna wasn’t playing more? Maybe I’m misremembering but I guess this story shoots that one down.

Matt Doyle just shared a tweet from Wes' dad during the group stage, pointing out that Gregg disciplined Wes during qualifying

He doesn't get enough credit for keeping the team 100% ALL IN MANTALITY!

If there is one thing you absolutely can't shite on Gregg for, it's his man-management. He's been very good in that respect.

Tweet from a BVB/Bundesliga reporter.

This puts Gio Reyna in a very bad light and corresponds with his often bratty, pouty antics in a Dortmund shirt.

Edin Terzic has criticised his players for a lack of intrinsic motivation this season. Hopefully this was a wake-up call.

This is a really lame story all the way around. Gio comes off like a bitch and, to me, admittedly biased against Gregg, Gregg comes off like a poor leader/manager to have let it come to that point.

A manager doesn't have to play pouty players, but mediocre managers like Gregg are a lot easier to replace than Bundesliga starters from the U.S.

One important question is whether this behavior by Gio was totally out of the blue. That's kind of hard to believe.. Seems like it would behoove the manager to be ready for a player like that to respond poorly when told he is sitting the bench.

It's just dumb rhetoric overall because if this were to happen with literally any other team in any other sport, we'd all be saying the player is in the wrong.

But because it's Gregg and Gio, people are actually siding with the dude who is pouting because he loafed in training and then didn't get subbed in the first match.

So this is the part where y’all apologize to Gregg, right?

…. Right?

My point is when Long and Yedlin are the teams leadership and they are the ones speaking to Reyna you have a problem. Why isn’t Pulisic and Adams speaking to him?

Adams definitely did. Members of the leadership council addressed it with Gio, and Adams is part of that group.

Why is everyone criticizing Gregg for this? He handled the situation well got the team on board, addressed a talented but moody young player not meeting the standard demanded of all teammates, and corrected the issue respectfully.

Definitely not. He pouts like Ronaldo every time a teammate does something he doesn’t.

Lol what a fricking mess this is.

Eh. National team is different. The player pool is set, the manager has to make the best of it.
There’s no way you can say Gregg is blameless for letting his relationship with one of the best players in the pool get this sour at the World Cup.
Maybe he did everything possible to prevent it, maybe he didn’t.
Or are you saying he shouldn’t have to do anything to prevent it? That he should just make his decisions and if one of the best players wants to act like a bitch about it, then too bad?

I'm saying you play guys who aren't going to be a detriment to the team. And if a dude, who is likely our most talented player but clearly came in not 100%, is pouting enough to the point where other players are calling him out, then he is being a detriment to the team.

It's the fricking World Cup, it's literally why the international game exists, it's team above everything at that point.

One more time. It’s not about the drama, it’s about leaking the drama.

Well then you should be mad at Charter Works for leaking the report that apparently was supposed to be off the record.

Gregg shouldn't have said it even at this summit though.

Appreciate the clarification.

Let's just hope this is immaturity from Gio as a result of still being so young.

I'm still in the camp that Greg has to go though

Pretty much everyone on this board is.

I still think it's ridiculous to blame him because it rained outside in parts of the country today.

I figured as much. I just wanted to go on record

Usually a silent lurker on this board given my ignorance on soccer but have been following USMNT for a couple of years now as I've come to enjoy soccer more.
