Because Klose is one of the best finishers in soccer and brings a ton of experience to an extremely young line-up.

I understand that, but if Gomez is working why change? I suppose Klose's strengths just fit better with the lineup/tactics he chose for Greece?

Özil can play any attacking mid spot but he's best in the middle to start. He'll pick up the ball from 100 different spots anyway.

If Götze and Özil could learn to play together, OH MY GOD

Did we come to a consensus about why Jogi is making 3 changes now? More pace to attack the Greek fortress on the flanks? Klose is a great pouncer, but Mario was doing fine.

I have a theory. I'll post it when I get home. It makes sense in my head.

I think Klose over Gomez does have a lot to do with the other young players he's starting today. Klose is a leader and Low might think he needs more on the field leadership with this lineup.

Could also be to keep Klose up to speed in case Gomez gets injured or has to sit a game.

Probably, considering Greece will play mostly behind the ball. Germans will have to be creative, and Klose makes good runs and has an instinct for finding space

Low has said how much he admired Ozil for changing for the team. I think the move to bring on Klose is to "unleash" Ozil in a way.

Gomez is a very good striker around the penalty area but Klose is better at making runs around the middle 3rd of the field. You bring in Klose who will check back for the ball, and you really let Ozil's pace and smart runs come in to play more. He'll be able to drift out wide with this formation as well.

Muller and Poldi were really good at staying wide and providing a lot of width in the attack for the group stages. They did their jobs perfectly. Now I'm guessing Jogi wants to allow the free flowing style to come back. You have Reus who loves to cut inside and get the ball and you have Schurrle who makes really smart runs and can provide depth.

So half the time when Germany is attacking, it will look like two strikers (Klose and Schurrle) and 2 attacking mids (Reus and Ozil) with the width coming from Lahm and Boateng.

That's my theory.

If Greece wins, Germany will give them their bail-out money no questions asked. But if they lose, Germany gets Greece.

Whoa! Klose doesn't usually sing the national anthem. That was weird to see.

I always get a mega-stiffy when Lied Der Deutschen hits that climax towards the end.
