The "Ö" carries an "er" sound. It's supposed to Erzil Gertsuh. I'm pretty sure that's how it is.

The "ö" is pronounced with a "ur" sound. Hence why it's pronounced "Urzil" instead of "Ohzil" for Özil.

I thought it was that way for Ozil because he's Turkish. I'm not sure it's like that for German.

again you are correct. to go back it's Gert-suh, like you mentioned. Suh has a soft "a" sound

No, it's not SOO. It's a lot softer than that. Like "uh"

"uh I don't know"

Boateng and Schweinsteiger were the weak links today. I know Steiger will bounce back but Boateng and Hummels getting beat a few times were pretty worrying.

Any chance we see Schmelzer or Mertesacker make an appearance in the semi's or Jogi sticking with Boateng?

If he makes a change it'll probably be for Bender to come on for Boateng. Hummels has been great this tournament, no way should he sit.

I can feel Ballack getting pissed off every time they mention that Lahm is the captain.

Do you actually speak German? I'm not trying to say I don't believe you, but I actually kind of want to know for sure now how to pronounce it. I know Ozil's name was pronounced like that, but I had assumed it was because he was Turkish.

Took German in college. No expert by any means. Not sure how the Turks pronounce Mesut Ozil but I imagine it is exactly how the Germans pronounce it.

I don't know anything about the Turkish language. I was just under the impression that the 'r' sound in Ozil came from Turkish pronunciation because I didn't think it was German. I know a tiny bit of German, and when I've heard words and phrases like "danke shön" or "der König", I don't remember hearing the r sound. Then again, German pronunciation drives me crazy (although not as crazy as their grammar).

Just got back from watching the game in the city center in Prague. Lots and lots of German fans there so I was glad to see they won.... definitely a cool experience aided by $2 beers they sold at the tents
