I wonder which country gave Dominica the most money in disaster relief...

The United 2026 bid announces it has received the backing of all 10 CONMEBOL members, as well as the 6 votes from UNCAF (The Guatemalan Federation is currently suspended).

To say this is huge for the bid is an understatement.

Excellent. That is big news, indeed.

I could have gotten behind the prospect of Morocco to win the 2010 bid when it was still 32-teams and Africa had never hosted before. But the thought of them hosting a 48-team World Cup and having to build all that infrastructure when the United bid is a slam dunk would be ridiculous and stupid.

We could host the World Cup by ourselves with a month’s notice. Morocco would need years to build all that stuff.

True, but Qatar is already behind schedule and over budget, despite being 8 years into the process. They’re not gonna deliver on any of the crazy shite they promised.

I doubt an effort by Morocco would be any less of a logistical mess, but at least they probably wouldn’t use slave labor to build their infrastructure. They don’t have crazy oil money like Qatar and Russia. I would still be willing to attend a game there, unlike Qatar.

At the end of the day, the United bid should be a no-brainer. But I won’t be confident until we’ve officially won the bid.

Qatar's final is supposed to be in a city that still doesn't exist. Not sure how comparable the two bids are.

Having been “deployed” to the United Arab Emirates, seeing their infrastructure, culture, amenities, their fandom for soccer especially with their local ownership in Manchester City and interest in Real Madrid, UAE has fielded better national clubs than Qatar, and seeing that they are constant hosts of smaller tournaments (Club World Cup and Asian Cup), they are WAY more deserving of hosting a World Cup than their tiny neighbor Qatar is. Hell I’m surprised Abu Dhabi or Dubai hasn’t tried to bid for an Olympics yet.

Even though Morocco has been constant bid losers for the World Cup, the NAFTA bid should be a slam dunk win based on facilities. If the North American bid loses that will be it for some loyal NA soccer fans. Especially ones who witnessed the 1994 World Cup in person like me (Ireland v. Mexico in Orlando).

Timely bump, as a FIFA task force arrived in Morocco today to find out why they left out the fact that homosexuality is a crime in the country. Even more surprising France is supporting them now

No way they repeal the law. This should all but confirm a United bid win.
