Also I wonder if there will be some sort of goal light like in hockey

Will not happen. In hockey, it's just some guy with a button sitting behind the net.

Platini needs to stop being a horse's arse and adopt it too.

I personally think they should just use RFID or some sort of electric signal (dog collar esq) with a chip in the ball (either one in the center if they can manage it, or multiple around the edges and once all chips have passed the line it counts) because laser/cameras could have people that get in the way..

I don't see any way you could put a chip in the ball. About the only way I could think of to make this work is to have cameras on the goalline and have a replay official. Then you need to decide on how the restart play after a goal. What if it takes 5 minutes to decide if it was a goal and you never stopped play? Do you just add 5 minutes of stoppage time? I assume you aren't going to stop play just to review it.

I know they can physically put a chip in. My concern is how do you tell if it's completely over the line? I don't believe a chip can accurately determine that.

I don't see why the game couldn't be stopped if there is a dispute, just like the game is stopped if there was an injury. It shouldn't happen too often and I would hope that it would never take 5 minutes.

It will be interesting but the money is there to be made for some really smart guy to come up with something that is pretty fool-proof. He stands to make millions.

-Video tech still has problems in that the goal posts and players can block the view.
-Chip tech could have problems with durability after being kicked 1000 times. How do you know it's still working until it's too late?
-I would imagine some sort of laser tech that sets up a wall of sorts along the line and can detect when the entire ball passes through. Potential problem here is for others breaking the wall and causing problems.

Replays in college football weren't meant to take 5 minutes either, but it happens.

Replays in football (Yank version) need to have time limits. If you can't decide in 5 minutes, then the call on the field needs to stand. But, to be fair, there are a lot of other things: down/distance, time on clock, spot of the ball, oh and was the call right?

I can't fathom in soccer a yes/no decision taking that long. In Am. Football there are a lot of other things: down/distance, time on clock, spot of the ball, oh and was the call right?

That's true. I won't say it can't happen but it would be ridiculous for it to take that long. Also, goal-line disputes in soccer don't happen nearly as often as replays in football.

My only problem with this is we're not getting general instant replay. Like the England match in the group stage, yeah the goal should have counted but he was offside.

Laser tech wouldn't work if anything else is on the goal line.
A chip would have to clearly define the edge of the entire ball. I have a hard time believing this could be done.
Cameras would work if you put at least one camera on each post and the crossbar. That should give you a clear view from at least one angle.

I get what you're saying. I'm just trying to look at it from a referee's perspective.

You're underestimating current technology IMO.

Probably so. I only know a little bit about that type of stuff. The chip will also have to damn near unbreakable considering how much the ball compresses when it's kicked.

A ball hitting the post/crossbar would rattle the shite out of the view.

I'm confident something marrying tech in the ball and along the goalline will be invented. Like I said, there is too much money to be made so it will happen.

FIFA didn't approve an impossibility

That was painful to have to defend FIFA

I guess any system where the tech is in the middle of the ball would not necessarily detect the ball crossing at the goalline but at a distance beyond the goalline where the middle of the ball would be for the entire ball to be across the line?

And I didn't know they were condidering the same system used in tennis. Interesting.
