The news is on twitter. The link is in German though. He'll surely miss some time.

Definitely sucks, but in terms of the USMNT...just move Landon or Zusi to the left. Landon has been drifting over to LW A LOT this gold cup.

It hurts us as I believe Johnson is our first choice LB. Beasley has been solid there lately but we need Johnson healthy for Brazil.

Update from Brian Sciaretta

quote:

Hoffenheim released a statement staying that while Johnson has a partial tear of an ankle ligament, the Bundesliga club expects him back at the end of the week.

"[Fabian Johnson] was tackled during a preseason game at Frankfurt, FSV, and had to be substituted," Hoffenheim press officer Holger Tromp told YA on Monday. "He has a partially torn ligament in his left ankle and will need individual rehab for the next days. The medics hope he can return to team practice by the end of the week."

Johnson and Hoffenheim open their Bundesliga season on August 10 with a home game against FC Nurnberg.

Medically speaking, an ankle sprain is tearing of the ligament from a first to third degree sprain. A first degree sprain is really just a stretch of the ligament but there is microscopic tearing.
