It's ridiculous that Italy/Spain have two days less rest than Germany/Portugal, but how do they justify two days of rest before the final?

I know they wanted to spread games out, but doesn't this seem stupid to anyone else?

This did not make sense to me either, and Germany doesn't need any extra advantage over Italy. I agree totally...

Stupid? Not for something where the bottom line is generating revenue. Unfair? Yes.

All about the Euro's. I agree should have played 2 quarterfinal's on Saturday and Sunday.

Actually it's quite stupid from a revenue perspective as well, they will get much higher ratings playing on sat & Sunday and the. The final the following weekend.

But yeah, Germany gets screwed on rest for the final as well.

i think they didnt want teams from the same group to play in the semis, which could have happened (ex. England and france winning their quarterfinal), so they take the teams from A/B to play against C/D, which leads to more rest for AB teams

That makes sense.. but the problem is how close the games are.. even the teams that get "more rest" get almost none.

always that way in tourneys, semis on wed/thurs and final on the weekend
world cup 2010 semis were on july 6 and 7, with the final on july 10
same time frame

"Just the way things are" is not a reason to do or not do something IMO. Not saying you're wrong, but that if that's the normal tourney format.. IT'S wrong.

One of three things has to happen with the format of the tournament

1) Two teams get 2 more days of rest than their opponents (Portugal and Germany get more time off than Spain and Italy)

2) There are going to be double-headers on Saturday and Sunday instead of quarterfinals each day Thursday-Sunday

3) There are going to be rematches if 2nd place finishers knock off group winners if no team has 2 days of rest (Germany vs Portugal)

I just don't see what's so hard about moving today's and tomorrow's semifinals back to sat/sun and then having the final next sunday?

Obviously not this year, but the next go around it needs to happen.

I'm pretty confident they could have easily set it up where every game is between opponents coming off an equal number of days of rest.

Final was on the 11th, so at least they had one more day of rest.

Then they should do double headers. In fact, they should have done two double headers during the previous weekend for the last round of group play.

It really doesn't bother me. Hell we used to play entire tournaments in a day and I'm no world class athlete. Playing 1 game and then having a day off before having to play another game is plenty. Its not like they run a marathon, the only worry is minor injuries carrying over but that's gonna happen anyway

The 4 days setup is ok what they should change is put one more day between the last games of group D and the start of 1/4 finals, that way they can change the order of 1/4 where there is only 1 day rest difference.

Portugal/Czech rep
Spain/France
Germany/Greece
England/Italy
