I think the rodwell move pretty much ended the DDR move. Too much money to spend for a holding midfielder IMO although DDR is one of the best.

Every 4 months the uk press decides that man city is going after de Rossi again. He's 29 years old, a one club man, and has signed a long term contract, a move just doesn't make any sense. Clearly, he is one of the best in the world at what he does but they now have toure, de jong,Milner, rodwell, Barry and Zabaleta who can all play a holding role in midfield.

I think Milner can do a good job as a RWB, in the 3 man defense that Mancini's been playin...

Milner can do a job just about anywhere. I don't think he's really gonna settle at city though until he gets a position an regular playing time. He can do a job on the wing but he is not a winger and struggles to get past fullbacks regularly. Even at Villa he struggled his first season until Barry was sold and MON converted him to a box to box type center mid.

He can play wide in their 3-4-3 formation but not the 4-2-3-1. If Rodwell even that good? He has never really impressed me. Milner over Rodwell at center mid for me.

You never know but it seems Roma turned down City's last offer of €40 million. I do think that there was a more real possibility of him leaving this time than in the past but, my feeling, it was only going to happen if City paid so absolutely absurd transfer.
To answer your question though, it would change a lot if Roma accepts a bid from City. I would imagine that the bid would have to be large enough that 2 more midfielders just for hypothesis sake: Witsel and Sandro, could be brought in with money left over.
Again, you never know, and I won't be convinced until I hear it from De Rossi at tomorrow's press conference, but there's certainly more signs pointing to De Rossi staying in Rome.
The most significant may be that De Rossi will field questions at Roma's scheduled press conference tomorrow and the prize for being the first few fans to purchase season tickets in the "Super Monday" promotion today was a first row seat and meeting De Rossi et al at the presser. It would be a cruel "reward" if that presser had him announcing a departure.
