Do soccer broadcasts forego a huge amount of ad revenue?

I'm told that American sports (pro and college) HAVE to structure their games that are broadcast on TV such that they can maximize ad revenue through excessively long stoppages, TV timeouts, etc. I notice soccer doesn't do that, but has various banner ads on the field and other ways to work in sponsors.
Is soccer leaving tons of money on the table by not altering their gameplay to work in more actual commercials? My suspicion is, no.
I postulate the ad value of any sports broadcast is worth X dollars, no matter how it's split up and whether or not you choose to alter the gameplay for TV. Can someone tell me if I'm wrong here? Why can't American sports take more a stand on this and stop letting the tail wag the dog when it comes to broadcasts?

I see where it would hurt season matches, but not at an event like the World Cup. The entire game ads are rotating on the digital screens surrounding the field. It basically serves as a constant advertisement for sponsors with no chance of people flipping through channels during commercials

because corporations run American and they want more ads, less game

Yes, I understand that's the "conventional wisdom" answer here. I'm still not convinced, however, that the actual value of the broadcast (and ad revenue generated) would be different if advertisers were simply forced to work within the actual time constraints inherent in each particular sport. I'd like to see evidence to convince me otherwise.

I really wish American sports would do the rolling advertisements more, but it still probably wouldn't cut commercial breaks by much

I actually wish soccer had a few commercials, like maybe at the 15, 30, 60 and 75 minute marks.

Having never watched an MLS game, I can't comment on how the work, but in Brazil they actually voice over ads during the game, similar to a radio broadcast.
In some ways, it seems like it might be more cost effective for the companies. They don't have to pay to produce a commercial. But maybe the tv network can't charge as much for the ad space?

I think baseball does a good job with their commercials, they only run them when the pitchers are warming up.
