Cristiano Ronaldo a tough act to follow online

Cristiano Ronaldo is definitely the king of the world when it comes to social media. Thanks to his 164 million followers across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the Portuguese is the sportsman with the biggest online presence on the planet.

The CR7 brand is synonymous with impact and money as demonstrated by his recent social media campaign with Tag Heuer.

Six Facebook posts with the Swiss watch company's slogan Don't Crack Under Pressure over two days generated over €360,000. CR7's messages on the social network were viewed by 35 million people and racked up 2.5 million "likes".

Ronaldo's record, however, was not from a promotional post, but a photo with his son that reached almost 5 million "likes".

Cristiano Ronaldo is streets ahead of Leo Messi when it comes to social media presence, with 65 million more followers than the Argentine whose image does not sell as well as CR7's, although many consider the Barcelona star the best footballer on the planet.

Neymar also has one over on his Argentine teammate. Despite boasting roughly the same amount of followers (around 99 million, although Messi doesn't have an official Twitter account), the Brazilian's posts always generate more traffic.
