Meh. I don't think anyone is disputing they have a better squad from top to bottom, but the same can be said of Portugal and they were lucky to get a point from us in Brazil.
I'll be disappointed if we drop 3 points there, and they aren't so talented that a win or draw shouldn't be expected. Argentina, Chile, and Brazil are the only teams in the tournament that are a "totally different class." Uruguay and Columbia are a notch below that.
We haven't looked very good in 2015, that's obvious. New year, new yanks

I saw first hand the USMNT vs Columbia. They are just a totally different class than we are. I'd be happy with a draw in that one. If we can smash and grab a 1-0 that would be a amazing.
We were thoroughly outclassed in that one but still were a bad offside non call away from getting a draw.

Yea that was a totally awful call. This is going to be one of the matches we just have to accept we won't see much of the ball and our best bet is hitting them on the counter.

Sorry bro but you are wrong about Columbia

Honestly, I'd be more concerned had we drawn an in-form Ecuador than Colombia right now, but this group comes down to holding serve against Costa Rica and Paraguay. Colombia is a fantastic team team with much better talent than the US, but right now they are not the 2014 World Cup team that everyone remembers. Playing at home, we should absolutely expect to be 1 or 2 in this group. It's certainly the "toughest" of the four groups, but how unrealistic is it to expect the US to beat Costa Rica and Paraguay on home soil and try to take points off Colombia?

Agree to disagree. I know they had a hard time scoring at the copa last year, got throttled by Uruguay in the fall, and just haven't had a lot of luck finding the net. They've scored 6 goals in their last 10 matches. Not disputing they're a better side than we are, I just don't see them as a Chile or Argentina level squad. Brazil is Brazil. Their style owns us. I'll be disappointed if we don't get a point

We must get 3 off Paraguay. Not confident we beat the ticos or Columbia. Navas is playing out of his mind right now. 5 points is probably best case scenario, but that gets us to the knockout

considering how bad we looked in the gold cup, and now have much less of an identity and squad cohesion, i dont think we should expect to get a full 3 points off anyone in our group.
not saying we cant or wont, but if youre looking at it solely based on the USMNT of 2015, its looking pretty freakin bleak.
alot of talk about Colombia "not being as good as the WC team," but take a look at what we've done since then as well.
throw in a quickly declining JJ, not knowing where dempsey stands, our traditional 1st choice keepers riding the pine, and a lost year forcing the Brooks/Alvarado nightmare, there are way more question marks surrounding this tourney as opposed to Brazil.

Lost year? More like two lost years for our back line by the time we get to the tourney. I'm hoping we stick with a Cameron/Gonzo/Besler/Brooks combo and put Danny Williams or Cameron next to Bradley, and start doing that ASAP, but I haven't seen any evidence that this will happen.

would love for williams to lock down a spot. with cameron, ive always liked him in theory much more than practice but hes a better option than most in the pool.
but god. theres so many holes. hopefully bedoya comes back in at RM with Fab left, but then we're basically right back where we started in 13/14.

I agree with pretty much everything you posted with regards to performance the last couple years for all of the teams in this group, but I still contend that the US should expect to take 3 points on home soil, when fielding their strongest available side, in any match against Costa Rica and Paraguay.
Form and past outcomes aside, that should absolutely be the expectation IMO.

I'm sorry I have to be the one to say it but I cringe every time I see someone spell Colombia 'Columbia.'
Ugh..
Ugh..

If we get completely embarrassed out there that should be the last straw for Jurgan.

Agree that back to back failures at tournaments in the US should have alarm bells ringing.
