Do you think they'll take a spot from CONCACAF and give it to Europe, then make the third place time (i.e. Honduras or Costa Rica) play in the South American playoff?

the way they are playing, it wouldnt surprise me if they took the half spot and gave a complete spot to South America

I doubt that CONCACAF would lose a bid to CONMEBOL, especially if both the USA and Mexico advance to the knockout rounds.

they are definely over rated
compared with uefa head to head

3 wins(argentina over greece, paraguay over slovakia, and chile over switzerland, all should have been wins)
3 ties(uruguay/france, paraguay,italy, brazil portugal)
1 lose(spain over chile)

the only reason there stats llok so good is the competietion.

and we do not see them match up until quarter finals

Because CONMEBOL is and always has been the best soccer confederation.

Agree 100%. Uefa teams, while many are very good, become overrated by media outlets due to the money involved.

UEFA advanced 6 of 13 teams. (3 group winners)
Africa advanced 1 of 6 teams. (0 group winners)
CONCACAF advanced 2 of 3 teams. (1 group winner)
Asia advanced 2 of 4 teams. (0 group winners)

If CONEMBOL is going to get another bid, I think it's abunduntaly clear who should lose a bid. Though UEFA didn't really help their cause.

Did Africa really get 6 spots or was it 5 spots + the hosts?
Will that spot go to Brazil in 2014, giving S. America one more?

conomebol and uefa are tied with world cup champions(9), but uefa has 4 different teams win, conmebol only has 3 different teams, and uefa has sent more teams to the finals than conmebol(hungary, sweden, Czechoslovakia, hungary, and netherlands)

eufa has had a team in the final since 1954
only twice has a uefa team not been in the final('30 and '50)
conmebol has been kept out of the finals 7 times
they have been shut out of the top semi finals 4 times
eufa has had a team in the semis every tournament

how again do they come close to comparing?

Just to throw it out there, CONMEBOL only consists of 10 countries...much smaller than all of the other Confederations (other than Oceania which has 11).

And, I'm not saying that this should necessarily cut down on the number of teams they qualify. But, it might go into keeping their number down.

i can see south america getting 5.5 next time, with a playoff against the fourth CONCACAF team

africa should lose a spot to asia

if anyone in oceania could compete with new zealand i'd give them a full spot... or the OFC champion could join the final round in Asia

CONMEBOL 5.5
CONCACAF 3.5
AFC 5.5
OFC 0.5
CAF 4
UEFA 13

if someone is going to argue that conmebol is the best and always will be, they should be able to at least come close to the same level of play on the field, regardless of where that field is.

Correct on both counts.

But Africa didn't really live up to five bids either. Give one of their bids to Asia. CONCACAF is actually fine at 3.5. Honduras showed we don't deserve a full fourth bid.

why? their 5th place team has always had to have a playoff to get into the the tourney. And why would concacaf or oceania deserve more? all the teams have been knocked out from there and conmebol is still going strong. And oceania lost the only team worth a damn in australia. A team that used to beat the likes of america samao 31-0. eruope and conmebol deserver to have the most teams in cus they are the best.
