with the above mentioned holding true, if you throw quarterfinal or god forbid a semi final in 2022/2026, you’re talking about the most important athlete of all time zero discussion IMO. it makes me nervous for him just talking about it

Eh, I think he'd have to win a World Cup, or at least make a final, to reach that plateau.

I know soccer is in the American conscious more than it was in 2002, but making that quarterfinal then was big at the time, but it didn't do much for Donovan a year later... same with his goal in 2010.

I think there would be an immeasurable bump to that if it happens on domestic soil
