I saw a report that CP won 11 fouls. Gritty performance by him today.

He did, but none in the box or even close to it, which sums up their day offensively. He got beat up today. I’d be shocked if he’s fit for Sat vs City.

Honestly I thought Pulisic looked really sharp, and up for it. Unfortunately he couldn’t convert that one chance at the end of the game, but he was all over the place moving the ball around. Chelsea just couldn’t sustain any forward momentum, or play in Porto’s half really, whether be design or Porto’s effort. Kante had a couple moments where if he had made the right pass Chelsea would’ve had a couple great opportunities. Other than that ridiculous goal by Porto at the end you never felt like they were going to score.

I don’t get Kante. Love the guy but he could do so much more offensively. I get that he’s more of a defensive midfielder but when he makes interceptions, which he does a good bit, he rarely turns them into attacking opportunities. He himself has the ball handling ability to drive to the goal and shoot but rarely does. I wish sometimes he wouldn’t be so unselfish and finish a run.

he does do that sometimes. made a really good run yesterday in the box. the problem with kante as a b2b is when chelsea lose it and you have kova/jorginho alone.

i see what you're saying though. none of our midfielders are very good making the final pass or shot. i think gilmour has real qualities with that aspect but obviously we never see it.

With this new formation that TT has gone with, what do y’all think about sliding Mason back next to Kovacic/Kante? Then you could have a front 3 of CP, Kai, Timo/OG.

Mount is too valuable higher up, particularly when we go through spells of pressing hard.

So two worthless players in the attacking three? No thanks.

Give me Mount CP Giroud all day everyday.

I'm a big fan of Giroud fwiw. I've always felt he and Christian linked up well together.

To me he is easily our best striker, especially with what I feel like are a lot of crosses we put in from James.

James, Mount and CP are really the only guys that know how to feed OG

OG is the abby wambach of CFC

Casemiro could be one of my picks for that thread on “players you hate for no good reason.” He has a very punchable face.

Fat Hazard doesn’t scare me. I’m more focused on City this weekend. Missing Kovacic scares me.

I don't know about that. I see this as a legit 50/50 tie. I think in current form (assuming WBA was just a freak game with the red card + collapse), we've been pretty incredible for 3 months now and should have a ton of confidence going into this tie.

I think I'd give the entire Chelsea squad the edge from top to bottom. However, if you're comparing the top part of each squad, Madrid has the edge by some margin assuming everybody is fit. I'd take Benzema/Modric/Ramos before anybody else in this tie if I'm trying to win over two legs to go to the Champions League Final. They have all the experience in the world. But as I said, that's assuming full health. Ramos and Varane both have COVID and Ramos has been injured on top of that. Hazard has been injured. Etc.

mount has always said he prefers to play back as an 8. it could work pairing him with jorginho or kante, but i think he's better suited up top right now.

It's going to be extremely tough to beat this Madrid side in a cup competition. They are so perfectly built for this, people have underestimated them so much. I'm incredibly nervous, we need a Kante performance like the one against atleti and need the attackers to show up.
