Sounds like we may be picking up De Rossi. I love this move if it happens.

He would be fine at Barcelona but they play a different game than everyone else. Their defenders almost never have to defend. PSG is just after whatever big names they can get.

Would love, love, love that even if it's just for a couple of years. Wish this would have happened 3-4 years ago though.

Anybody actually seen this kid play? I've seen a lot of people on the Chelsea Message Board that think he's the real deal.

No, that isn't the thing. Barcelona are after him because he's a defender who possesses excellent ball skills and a robust passing range.

He's a very good player, but he isn't a pure defender like Mourinho typically fancies, and he really isn't a great centre-half.

Not gonna lie, he'll never be a favorite of mine.

But he's a black Scot which I do like.

Wiki says he's only 5' 4", that can't be right can it?

We can agree to disagree then.

If he were a better DM than he is a CB, then that is where he would be playing. Now, if we got a CB or 2 to replace DL in the defense then sure we could experiment with him more in the midfield, but right now he is our best CB and his midfield experiment had mixed results.

This is what I think too. Luiz is a very likeable player, but he's far too inconsistent to be considered a great CB. I do think that he has the potential to be great, but he's not there yet. Barca and PSG may want him based on his potential, but I doubt they're trying to take him based on his current ability.

Probably not. Chelsea desperately needed him to partner with Cahill last season since Terry missed a considerable amount of time. He also probably isn't a better DM than CB (at this point in his career) due to the fact that he really hasn't played there much. He will never have the quality of Terry, which is the standard that has been set at Chelsea. Cahill-Luiz just isn't a good enough CB pairing for Chelsea.

He's still a bundle of unharnessed potential at this point, which is disappointing because his development has theoretically ended.

That is what I am saying. And we still don't have anyone else to help fill in at CB and that is why he shouldn't be in the midfield.

Exactly, and that is why it is crazy for people to say without a doubt that he should be in the midfield when he has only played there a couple of times.

I've said before that I think in the future, he could possibly be a DM, but right now we don't have the personnel to play him in the midfield and right now all it is is an experiment.

ETA: and I think Jose can help DL a lot in his discipline and that he can become a world class centre-half with Jose's guidance. Just imo.

I never said he was a great CB until this post, you just said I did...

BUT...

I feel that he is a great CB, and we don't have any other great CBs to replace him if he were to move to the midfield. JT is getting old and Cahill and Ivanovic are good but not at the level of David.

I'm saying that he should never go in the midfield with our current squad because he is a great CB and not as good of a DM, and also that we don't have adequate replacements for him.

Well you did say that.

Anyway, I don't care to argue much more. I don't rate Cahill, but I do think Ivanovic is a better CB than Luiz.

I still never said that he was great, just that he wasn't not great
