They are already talented enough to win a cup (with lots of luck, obviously). We played like shite for the vast majority of this match, but we should have beat Belgium.

Yes! With the increase in popularity in the USA, we should only improve. As far as soccer not being the number 1 sport, do you think these other countries would compete with us in basketball our #2 or #3 sport?

Not if our best athletes can make a heck of a lot more money playing basketball, football, and baseball. Why the hell would a young kid play soccer? What is the incentive for a young intercity kid to choose soccer? There is none.

They are on the way. Lots of very young talent in Europe.
So the goal is to get more non-Americans on the team so the Americans can win? Seriously wondering. Are we enticing guys that should play elsewhere to become citizens here? In other words...not born and bred Americans?

In addition, only the 1930 U.S. and the 1966 USSR have made it to the semifinals.
I bet everyone was talking about how bright the future was for Team USA in 1930.

I'm sorry, but US soccer will never be able to compete with international completion in the late stages of the world cup.
Too much experience and better talent.

No. The best athletes in the US will always play other sports first. Soccer will always rank below baseball, football, basketball, and maybe even hockey

Our soccer players can already go overseas and make more money than any of those sports.

On a side note...why is the US women's team more of a contender every World Cup?

Did you watch the 2004 Olympics in which our pros got annihilated by Puerto Rico and ended up getting the Bronze?
Did you watch Spain give Team USA a game in the 2012 Olympics before finally losing by 7?

Aren't half the athlete that people like Russell Westbrook, Calvin Johnson, etc. are.

Because no one outside of the US gives a shite about women's sports.

Yea but they have to leave the country

It's obvious when watching the stronger teams the US isn't close...

We dominate the world in nearly every sport there is. Yes we can be talented enough.

Title IX.
Boys born in the 90's grew up wanting to be Michael Jordan, Brett Favre, Randy Johnson, etc.
Girls born in the 90's grew up wanting to be Mia Hamm.

We have 330 million people. At some point, you would think that we would have enough people care about soccer and really step up.
