big coverage this weekend for MLS

MLS and NBC Sports are jumping on the idea Saturday, organizing a staggered series of the league's top rivalry games, including Seattle-Portland, New York-D.C., Kansas City-Chicago and Montreal-Toronto -- and including a two-and-a-half-hour whip-around show called MLS Breakaway, bookended by three full-game broadcasts on big NBC and NBC Sports Network.
All told, there will be 10 straight hours of MLS coverage on national TV on Saturday, a great sign that the league is doing innovative things when it comes to scheduling and working with its TV partners. (Rivalry weekend continues on Sunday with Los Angeles-Chivas and Dallas-Houston, both of which will also be shown nationally on UniMas and ESPN2, respectively.)
viewers want to see the full games instead of using the whip-around, they'll be able to find them on MLS Live, cable and satellite packages and local and regional broadcasts. Or you could do what a lot of people do and get multiple screens going at home yourself

This is on NBC Sports? I'm guessing it's their attempt at a RedZone, gonna be hard to pull off as there aren't natural alerts for when something is going to happen like an NFL team being IN the redzone.

Maybe it's a picture in picture type thing? Or they will show a few minutes of each game and jump around.

frick my life, I have work saturday from 10am to 4am sunday morning.. I won't get to watch any of these games

Even if they are a little behind, it would be cool to see scoring play after scoring play in one place. Jump around a bit then show the scoring chance on a delay.
As long as they show the build up to scoring chances I will be happy. My biggest complaint is when they show just the final shot on a goal and not the four or five great passes that set it up.

I've been wondering recently, and maybe it's been discussed, but what would the reaction be if the MLS started showing commercials the way nascar does during the race.
They just do a picture in picture thing during commercials, so you don't miss any action, just the commentary.
Might help to get more games on TV. I would be fine with a 30 second interruption every 10 or 15 minutes, I think.

Ok, must have been before I really started following the MLS.
I could understand it being annoying, but not more annoying than no tv at all.
Last year it seemed like I had to watch half the Dynamo games on the Spanish channel anyways.
Hopefully this season it won't be as bad, but I don't get to see many of the other games.
I would absolutely take the commercial interruptions if I get to at least watch the games.

If it gets more soccer on TV, I'm for it.
