I'm not sure if he's that useful as far as using a WC spot when Geoff Cameron could probably play the same role, but better. It'd be really nice if Jermaine Jones would anchor the defense, but I don't think it's in him.

That great and all but beckerman straight up missed the ball and fell down a few times with no one around. He had the most lowlights. I have no pre-conceived notions on beckerman and I rarely post on this board. I was at the game and watched him more than anyone else because he got my attention by some of the dumb things he did. Plus his dreads are easiest to recognize. Once again, having said that he did make some very good plays that game. Just very inconsisent

Probably more to do with field quality than player quality. Bedoya must have fallen ten times last night.

I don't think Beckerman is underrated. He's actually appropriately rated. He's a 31 year old DM who has limited athletic ability, always seems to slow play down, and has a decent final ball. He's not as good as our top three CM options in Bradley, Jones, and Cameron, and his upside was never as high as Diskerud's, but he does his job effectively. What else do you want? Two or three cycles ago he might have been a first team option, but but now we have better players at his position both technically and athletically.

My biggest pet peeve with Beckerman is that he unnecessarily plays too many balls in the air.
Lateral ten yard pass to Bradley... Play in the air so he has to trap it.
I think Beckerman should be on the 23. Our double pivot in the midfield has two different types of players. The sexy box to box mid and the unsexy grinding mid.
We are pretty deep as far as our creative mids
Depth chart of box to box type:
Bradley
Holden
Torres
Mixx
I am sure I missed a guy or two. Plus, Bradley has that spot on lock down. He always play a full 90 for us, so it not like we need five guys playing the same role.
Grinder depth chart:
Jones
Cameron
Beckerman
Especially with Jones's penchant for yellow cards, Cameron is critical in this role. I would rather include Beckerman on the squad than six creators in the midfield.

While I agree he's been good this cup, wasn't most of the hate derived from his first team appearances when Jurgy took over? I'm honestly asking here. No one bitched about him in the 2009 GC, where he put in pretty consistent performances. It seems to me that when he was consistently chosen as a first team player, that's when people got angry, and the residue now colors anyone's observation of him. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So you're saying it shouldn't have been Beckerman and Larentowicz in the center instead of Michael Bradley in the early months of Klinsmann's tenure?

Christ I forgot Larenotwicz even got a cap. I really think a cycle or two ago Players of Beckerman's caliber would be first teamers. The fact he's relegated to B team action is one of the biggest signs of our first team progress.
