Neymar's high-profile move from Santos in the close season is also being investigated for possible misappropriation of funds following a complaint from a Barça member.
quote:
Sandro Rosell, who was named in the lawsuit but denies wrongdoing, stepped down as president last month. He said he wanted to protect the club's image and alleged he and his family had been threatened. Rosell was replaced by his deputy Josep Bartomeu who said Neymar cost Barca €86.2m, including payments to the player and his family, and not €57.1m as they originally said.

More likely that professional soccer will just be cancelled altogether.

I saw the prosecutor wants 9.1M Euros in lost taxes. I bet Barca can scrape up enough money to settle it out.

More than a club, it's also a tax dodging organization.

Could Barca ever pull a Leeds United?

I think Barca should face some sort of punishment but since they and Real pretty much run the league it won't happen. If it was me I would deduct 10 points from them and place a one year ban on playing in Europe.

If you really wanted to hit them hard you could make them share television money more on par with the way the other top leagues do.

Yeah I think it's real bs that a majority of the tv money goes to Barca and Real. No wonder they have had a monopoly on championships in Spain.

I'm curious about spanish soccer now, because I wonder how that would even go down politically that other FC's would willingly vote to restrict their own tv money.

I think only the Sevilla owner? stands up to them (if he hasn't met with an untimely accident by now).
In Italy, you also get a lot of the really smaller clubs completely cowtowing to Juventus and/or the Milan clubs but that the league has few other clubs with a little bit of political power kind of balances that out.

There is probably a book or series of articles I can find to bring me up to speed.
Hopefully the Sevilla owner doesn't fall up stairs anytime soon.

It Serie A, the big team owners have always been strong proponents of trickle down economics whereby they drink your wine and then piss on you.
