Austin Statesman

Playing at the race track.

Can some of y'all experts tell me what to expect? Is it like watching the Jesters?

Didn't realize this was related to FC Barcelona training academy.

I can only imagine the crowd a USL team in Austin will attract.

I went to some Aztex games when i lived in Austin. They were fun. Similarish to the Jesters, a bit bigger of a crowd than you get in NOLA though.

Austin has a pretty big soccer community so it makes no sense for them not to have a team.

Having the stadium down at the track is kind of a bummer though. The Aztex played right near The Tavern on North Lamar so you'd get people hanging out for a few pints before and after.

Probably a relatively young and wealthy one, which is good.

Ya, the location is lame. Big negative. They keep throwing around this downtown stadium idea so I'm not sure if this is helping or hurting that project.

I mean, if you set a minor league franchise up for failure 20 minutes from downtown, it is kinda shite to say "soccer won't work here" when that inevitably happens.

I'm not a huge soccer guys, but Austin could use some form of professional sports.

The area is a plus, I will admit that. If it was downtown or in the actual city then I guess I'd have a point.

as far as a real downtown stadium i could see real estate prices being an issue and the UT people are going to do you no favors as they probably don't want the precedent, even for just a minor league soccer team.

best case i could see maybe something out on the east side by like Justine's (awesome food btw) and then extend the monorail
