Alex McLeish needs to be arrested for impersonating a football manager, he then needs to be an@lly r@ped every 3 hours of his 25 year sentence

Biggest game of the season (Bolton @Home) and he starts Stephen Warnock at CM, no doubt he tried and ran his heart out but really!?!?!?, and starts Heskey over Gabby and the Fonz, when we cant score to save our life...Torres is 2 goals of being our top goal scorer in the prem...

His patch of playing Ireland at LM over N'Zogbia was another brilliant decision but glad Sir Charles is finally geting a run (even if he is being taken off regularly)

Happy dunne is back in the team, he's undoubtedly been missed, but it really shouldnt take the health of Petrov to mean that Bannan starts, who is by far our best technically gifted player and can unlock a defense better than anyone.

Also only a side note, but its currently £41 - $60 - a ticket for Villa vs spurs, we are under filling Villa Park on a weekly basis, you would think Lerner would drop the prices try and get a packed house and hope for some real support for last home game of the season. But on the plus side of that the allocation has been filled for @Norwich on last game - before i could buy tixs

I'm actually quite anti N'Zogbia if I'm being honest. I think if we had a different manager that would probably change but he has been awful almost all season. I really hate his attitude though, he sulks far to often and offers almost zero end product. He always dribbles with his head down and more often than not his runs end with him running into a group of defenders and losing the ball.

Agreed. I think Dunne + Cuellar is our best CB pairing. I'd like to see Collins sold in the summer and Clark eventually take Cuellars place. Baker has shown he is worthy of a spot in the squad as well.

Bannan might be our best technical player but he is completely useless in McLeishs team. Every time he brings him on he ends up hitting long ball after long ball and when he gets in a decent position every shot he takes is 10 feet over the crossbar. I don't think wee Barry will make it at Villa I'm just not sure what his position is. He needs to be played in the center because of his passing but he is so small and slow that he never finds the time and space he needs to pick a pass.

Attendance is down around 8,000 on average this season and I'm fairly certain they have been counting season tickets holders who haven't shown up every game this season. Villa Park 42,000 and we're struggling for 32,000. If McLeish is retained over the summer, which is unimaginable, I would expect attendance to regularly be under 30,000 next season.

From what I've seen on TV the traveling away fans have really been great all season. Its a shame some of the performances they've had to endure but its always great to hear "Lets pretend we just scored a goal" . Have you gone to many games this season? If so how has the atmosphere been?

I am so glad I am not a futbol manager... People's be harsh. But seriously AVFC is in a miserable situation. How hilarious is it going to be when AVFC get's relegated and their best friends the blues get to come up from the npower champ? I think it would be pretty funny and may get yall a new manager.

I think alot of it is being a confidence player, i always thought last year when he was at Wigan he had that look of "I know im good enough to win this game by myself if needed to". And at Villa he doesn't seem to have that confidence in himself. After a bad start i dont think McLeish really helped him by dropping him so quickly, and its gone on from there. The arguments about how we play - totally justified, and you have to think that N'Zogbia was sol the line of us playing how we did under MoN, free flowing fast paced football - and further lack of playing time don't help a player. Even playing now it wouldn't shock me if in his head he is thinking I've got to do something in the 1st 45-60 otherwise im off, and thats why you see him trying to do too much

As for Bannan, i agree he needs to be in the middle. Personnally i think Villa need to be playing 4-3-3, as one of a midfield 3 he can have more freedom to roam and find more space, which allows him to look up and play how he wants to.
I also miss Delph, who at the beginning of the season was different class to the rest of villa imo

I've only been to 4 games this year, I'm at uni up north so its alot harder for me to go to the games, but was at the first 2 games and what you said about our away fans is true, 1st game @ Fulham we were sold out and in good voice, then home opener vs Blackburn (even at discounted prices) there were large patches of empty seats, even in the holte which you could usually count on being packed out. Given the negative football we play its no surprise to me that the attendance is low, if it ment we were winning i think fans may be able to tolerate it for the 1st year, but negative losing football attracts nobody

We have the 41st highest average salary out of all clubs in all sports in the world

Thats pretty shocking. Somebody posted this on VillaTalk and I thought it was pretty interesting

quote:

According to new figures collated by the highly-respected industry analysts Sporting Intelligence, Barcelona's first team squad earn an average of £101,160 a week - that's over £10,000 a week more than at any other club, playing any sport, anywhere in the world. Second on the list is Real Madrid, whose players are far behind on a meagre £90,859 each, while Manchester City (£86,280) and Chelsea (£79,197) occupy third and fourth spots on the list.

Basketball's LA Lakers are the best-paid non-footballers, squeezing in at fifth with £73,612. Baseball's New York Yankees are sixth (£72,093) despite having the world's best-paid team sportsman, Alex Rodriguez, on their books picking up a whopping £384,615 a week. The Yankees were number one when the list was originally published two years ago, but since then wages have been restricted across the Atlantic while in Europe the amounts demanded by top players has continued to rise. Manchester United are just outside the top 10, with first team players pocketing an average of £63,514, while Arsenal (£61,532) are 16th and Liverpool (£60,954) are 18th.

The only other Premier League teams in the top 100 are Aston Villa at 41st (£47,401) and Tottenham at 51st (£44,394).

I was thinking about starting a new topic about that article just because it's so interesting and would probably garner a lot of interest from other posters who are fans of different EPL clubs.

Drawing, drawing Villa were always going to do it by instalments, point by point.

match report . Well we're safe now atleast. Hopefully we can put this season behind us and bring in a new manager as soon as possible. If mcleish is somehow retained for next season I'm not sure I will be able to watch. Unfortunately for Villa, the same holds true for many of the season ticket holders

And here's some fun

...

Besides, McLeish finally has the financial support of the board at Villa that he didn't have at his previous clubs. Not an inspiring hire by any means, but it might be a good fit.

Are you insane?

Eck's strategy will be as follows:

Play 10 men behind ball
Punt ball forward
????
Profit

No amount of money will change that.

He was trying to be supportive of the club. We were condemned for turning on mcleish before he started because of his blues connection. NVasil1 was just trying to be fair to him and reasonable, I'm sure he was just as unhappy as everybody else by the hire. Once the decision was made though we had to back the club and give the man a chance.

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish: "It was an absolutely shocking, woeful display. Maybe some of the boys were thinking about their holidays already.

"That team needs a change and there will be change. That wasn't an Alex McLeish team today. We need to bring more quality into the squad.

"I take (the fans' booing) on my shoulders for the sake of the players, I agree with the fans' frustration about our display.

"I'm expecting the board to back me. I have no reason to think I won't be (Villa manager next season). We've got through a really tough season. I've won lots of trophies as a player and manager and I haven't turned into a bad manager overnight."

Hopefully the last time I will ever read the bullshite coming out of that clowns mouth.

So who does everyone like for the next Villa manager? Lambert looks to be the favorite right now but we could always end up with a cheap disappointing option like curbs or Steve Bruce. I wouldn't mind taking the scums manager for a second straight season to be honest, I quite like Chris houghton

Solskjaer would be an interesting move, cant say ive ever even thoguht about watching Norweigian football but you cant argue with 63% win rate.

On 18 May 2012, Molde gave Aston Villa permission to discuss their vacant managerial role with Solskjær.

My #1 is Gus Poyet

I saw an awesome documentary of Gunnar while I was in Norway. Pretty sure he was on the coaching staff at Man Utd for a few years. Not sure though. Would be an interesting hire.

He was an incredible player.

I'm totally down for the Ole hire. Young, ambitious and he apparently wants to play an attacking style. I saw a youtube vid of him yelling at players during training for passing too much and not shooting.

Plus I want an excuse to wear viking horns when Villa come to Chicago this summer.

Birmingham Mail: OGS pulls his name from consideration for the Villa job

Hoping we can get Lambert, Martinez or maybe even Chris Houghton who could leave Birmingham city

Yeah I doubt it happens but I don't think the fans would mind. The problem with mcleish wasn't that he managed city, it's that he's a proven negative losing manager. I would definitely prefer Houghton to curbs or Bruce, the 2 safe choice out of work managers who I view as last resort type hires.

Forget to add Poyet. Would be quite happy with him as well.
