that is an innocuous looking lineup, save for a handful of them. a pretty depressing XI to open the season. would've really liked our best chance at throttling those georgie frickers too after our last meeting with them.

We have to remember that Newcastle has lost a lot of players, and only really added Yohann Cabaye and Demba Ba, good players who we should be able to deal with.

yeah, I guess we did own the frick out of them leading up to the Diaby red card.

Two things happened almost simultaneously. First Djourou got injured. This was when he was in a particularly rich vein of form. Squillaci came on. Diaby gets the red a minute later. We implode.

Squilaci got beaten on the turn in the Benfica game so easily that it amazes me Wenger considers him a viable option. Then again, the number 18 is always reserved for shite French defenders who Wenger buys as back-ups (Squillaci, Sylvestre, Cygan).

Brand new to tigerdroppings, joined because of the SEC Rant forum but damn it is good to see a dedicated soccer board, I've been an Arsenal fan since I was 10, Bergkamp was my favorite player as I always followed the Dutch national team as well.

Yeah, I guess we probably won't be playing the 4-2-3-1, but I'd guess it'd still be those 11. That stems mainly from my injury pessimism.

Our squad isn't top 4 right now, even when healthy (assuming Cesc and Nasri are gone). Add Mata, a CB, another playmaker and a solid backup striker, then we could be in business.

Among many things, but one less talked about, this team really needs a legit backup striker. Looks like Gervinho is mostly out wide, and Chamakh has yet to regain his early season form of last year. Every other contender has multiple quality options and we have nothing behind Van Persie. Hopefully Campbell can contribute quickly if we ever sign him.

Cesc and Samir are named to the UCL play-off squad for the first leg at The Emirates on August 16. Look for them to be sold shortly after. Wenger will Cup tie them and then let them go.

Wouldn't they lose a lot of value, like 5M each?

Neither player will beat us in a potential future UCL match. Worth it IMO. 20mm for Nasri and 35mm for Cesc. I'll take the cash.

Could just be a ploy to get Barca and MCFC to pony up quick.

I hope Barca bites considering the way they've been screwing around.

Or that. Wenger knows what he is doing. Either he gets what he wants for the players or they won't be eligible for the UCL. Pretty smart move IMO.

Are we sure Cesc and Nasri weren't just named to the UCL roster, and not the squad for next week? If they were just named to the roster then that means practically nothing. Seriously doubt they will be cup tied. Cesc isn't even healthy. No way he plays next week.
