With Newcastle playing both Chelsea and City I'm not worried about them. Hopefully they can draw Chelsea and lose to City to keep them both off our backs.
Chelsea has Liverpool as well, so not the easiest final stretch and it might be too little too late, especially if they lose the CL final. Spurs have a pretty easy road though, thankfully they have been playing pretty poorly lately despite today's victory.
I think Arsenal can hold on to 3rd/4th considering the final two clubs, but without Arteta or Walcott, and a cooled off RVP I just can't see many goals coming our way.

Good News Everyone!
Figured it was inevitable but good to know.. if only he could step in for these last two games..

This may have been discussed earlier, but I think I heard Ian Darke say that if Chelsea wins the UCL and finishes 5th, then the 4th place team doesn't get that spot in the UCL qualifying rounds. Is that true? I was already planning on pulling for Bayern because I'd say they are my favorite team other than Arsenal, but this just seals the deal.

That's what I hear as well, although it's complete bullshite IMO.
If they want to give Chelsea a spot that's fine and dandy.. but don't punish 4th place for Chelsea concentrating too much on CL and not even doing well in the league.

I just looked in the race for 4th thread. It appears that what Ian Darke said was correct. If Arsenal finishes in 4th, the Bayern Munich fanbase will grow by the size of the Arsenal fan base.

For this game only, they've already got my support. Screw Chelsea.

In 2005 Liverpool won the UCL, but finished fifth in the league. Scousers complained, and UEFA didn't want the defending champion out of next year's competition. The qualifying rule was changed.
Everton got screwed.

I'm fine with this part.. but it should be an extra spot not a disqualification for 4th.
maybe even make them play a playoff game with 4th for the spot. would be more fair.

Just looked it up
quote:
The UEFA Champions League titleholder is The UEFA Champions League titleholder is guaranteed a place in the group
stage even if it does not qualify for the competition through its domestic
championship.
a) If the titleholder comes from an association entitled to four places in the
UEFA Champions League and qualifies for the UEFA Europa League
through its domestic competitions, the lowest-ranked club of the association’s UEFA Champions League representatives is automatically
transferred to the UEFA Europa League (into the latest possible round
where there is a vacancy). In this case, the number of places to which the
titleholder's association is entitled in the UEFA Champions League and
the UEFA Europa League does not change.

UEFA Champions League and does not qualify for the UEFA Champions
League or UEFA Europa League through its domestic competitions, the
lowest-ranked club of the association’s UEFA Champions League
representatives is automatically transferred to the UEFA Europa League
(into the latest possible round where there is a vacancy). In this case, the
association of the titleholder is entitled to one additional place in the
UEFA Europa League.
c) If the titleholder comes from an association entitled to fewer than four
places in the UEFA Champions League and qualifies for the UEFA
Europa League through its domestic competitions, it is entitled to play in
the UEFA Champions League in addition to the association’s other UEFA
Champions League representative(s). In this case, the combined number
of places to which the titleholder's association is entitled in the UEFA
Champions League and UEFA Europa League does not change.

Adds needed depth. Doubt he will be an every day starter. Depth has been our issue, glad to see it being addressed.

Well anything is better than the astute combination of Djourou and Squillaci.

Yep. Always nice to sign a captain. A healthy Kos and TV5 aren't going to be broken. But he and Per give us a pretty damn good back 4 in the central defense.

He can also play DM. Versatile talent.
Also, Kate Upton FTMFW.

The dancing banana will never do it for me again now. I will only wish it was Kate Upton.

Looks like Arsenal is going to have to get max points in their final 2 matches to finish 3rd, and hope for City to beat Newcastle for breathing room and guaranteed top 4.
