More dropped points, sigh.
Takes Herculean efforts for us to put a single goal in, frustrating to watch
But I am glad we didn’t lose

3 goals in our last 3 PL games
We’ve got Chelsea next weekend, and as bad as they’ve been, are only 6 pts back of us

Yeah I was surprised to see them sitting in 4th.
So getting any points is needed.
Can’t just start losing games.
Also, they need to update the rules.
No one knows what a handball is. The more I see the heaven one he brings the ball down with his arm. Yeah it hits his head first but he finishes settling it down his arm.

One area Odegaard really excels in is leading our press, and teams are negating that by going over the top and bypassing our press.
He really needs space to be effective on offense, and we just don’t have it (Unless we’re playing against PSV).
I know he’s a fan favorite and has led this organizational change with Arteta but I feel like we’ve evolved past him. If we’re really shrewd, you can sell him this summer, and have the big summer that I think this team needs to go to the next level.
You’ve got Nwaneri, Vieria, Kai maybe even Dowman that can play the right 8, or if we move more to a double pivot, you can play them as a 10

No need to spend part of the summer trying to get a sporting director.
100% agreed.
We can't officially sign anyone until our new fiscal year starts which is July 1st but we had fricking better have 2 or 3 guys signed by then. Get this Zubimendi shite wrapped up ASAP.
Sesko would be an early July signing but Isak would probably be a mid to late August signing. We need Newcastle to miss out on the champions league. That would let Isak gtfo earlier and let's be real, Newcastle will need a miracle to make it.
We need this team to hit the ground running hard similar to that magical season of 22-23. No more bullshite and summer shite that hurts us early in the season. There are no summer tournaments (Club World Cup but we aren't buying anyone playing in that shite).
Hopefully Berta helps with that. I dont care if we sell for pennies in late August, we need a full squad in the first 3 or 4 games.

Forest did us a favor beating City. Too bad those bitches couldn't do that last season

Man idk. I just think Odegaard hasn't been right since he got hurt. He was supposed to carry us with Saka this year but that stupid injury in a useless international killed us.
I do feel like hes got one more season in him tho. I want to see him with a legitimate striker

We are 8 points ahead of 5th place. April and May are going to kill me isn't it?

Liverpool, Chelsea and maybe Brentford & Bournemouth are about the only teams that won’t completely park the bus on us on the last 10 games
Fulham (Who we struggle with fully fit), Everton, Ipswich, Palace, Newcastle, and Southampton will all park it in on us.
It’s going to be a slog in, and depend on who is in what position at the time.
Only 4 away at least, Everton, Ipswich, Pool, Southampton

I mean I HOPE that is the case, but as these teams keep parking the bus and midblocking us to death, he just becomes such a net negative. He needs space the thrive, and no one gives that to us anymore, it’s one of the big reasons he scored so many goals in 22-23, sitting at the top of the box receiving a cutback after moving the ball in transition
We just don’t play that way anymore, and he just struggles when we play teams that are physical and pack the midfield.

I thought Martinelli looked great today also, positive development
Ethan looked like the teenager that he is, didn’t play great, but sad that we are relying on a 17 YO to carry our attack game in and game out

This is Odegaard in a nutshell. Against these low blocks, we need someone that is going to exploit that space with a carry, either before or after he goes around the CM, instead he immediately veers away from pressure and ends up losing the ball. Other times we just recycle back to the CB. Hes just so angle biased that teams KNOW he can’t drive to his right foot with any force
LINK
Wider angle to show how much space he had to push forward and try to draw someone from the backline up
Also, I’m not sold on Merino the midfielder, he damn near cost us the game today once he moved back there. Wouldn’t hurt to take a loss and find someone else

I love Merino as a 13th or 14th option off the bench. I think that's always been what he was gonna be.

I mean he’s not crazy bad or anything, but I feel like you could have gotten a promising younger guy for the money we spent on him.
It just seems like an odd move in retrospect, seems like we could have used some athleticism in that role instead of what we got

Also I want to see Calafiori at CF and give Tierney a start at LB

lol what? Sorry but I have to push back in this.
None of those players are as good as odegaard there.
Maybe Ethan can be, but none of the others.
Ethan isn’t even making it 90 minutes in a game rt now. He struggled against united.
This is crazy talk.
And the manager had a chance to play him more for odegaard and didn’t.
I mean veira? That dude ain’t playing for arsenal again. That was a failed signing. I just don’t see him pulling a tierney or elneny and getting game time after loan spells.
I’ll bring this up again. I’ve looked for players in the league with maybe a similar body type and maybe who he can be. I got Bernardo Silva. But Silva has 20lbs on him. And that’s not 20lbs of fat considering how lean Silva is. Viera is a little guy, tiny.
Santi wasn’t tall, but he had that big arse to throw around and a true two footed player.

The assumption is it allows you to bring in a guy that exceeds in that role, and the other guys can serve as backups. I just think we’ve outgrown Odegaards skill set outside of the pressing deal.
Kai would be great as a single 10, playing behind a real CF, it’s kinda what he did at Leverkusen & Chelsea anyway
As I’ve said before, I prefer a move back to a double pivot allowing Declan to become the box crashing box to box monster that he is, then whoever that creative guy is can be a 10/SS
