Except we played on the counter in a low block set. Wenger might commit to playing that consistently, but even in those games we had long periods of possession where we still had to break down teams. We would get maybe 2 to 3 opportunities a game to counter. If Vardy can finish ten of those chances, then he might be worth it, but there are still around 26 or so games a season where we will have teams packing the box regardless of whether we play in the low block, medium block, or high block set.

After watching that video I've talked myself into liking this a lot. Need 2-3 more players then let's go kick some arse next year

Not real excited.

Let's go all-in on a world-class striker, not another addition to the journeyman-striker-by-committee club.

Giroud with two goals for France. He also basically confirmed vardy is coming.

If we can get one good season out of him I guess it is worth it. Also could mean Wenger is at the very end, he usually doesn't throw money at 30 year olds.

So I wasn't initially excited about Vardy, but we need someone to put the ball in back of the net, I don't care how. Seems like that's what he did for most of last season.

Obviously him replicating his form last season is tough, but we don't need that to win the league. I'm better with this now than I was a few days ago.

So maybe we run this out next year, Gibbs, Ramsey, Gabriel, Chambers if not on loan, Jack, Elneny, Coq, Giroud, and Campbell being the main players off the bench. Think we need another player we can play up top at the wing and central defender. Also this lineup is obviously not going to be it, just threw it together on my phone real quick

If we get Rodriguez from Wolfsburg, I get the feeling we'll see a shift in formation and tactics with our outside backs providing the width.

It would look like something I throw out on FIFA

So, having already signed Xhaka and being linked with Vardy, Mkhitaryan,Mahrez, and Rodriguez, is this normal? I know we always finish the windows disappointed, but I don't remember being linked with so many players so early.

This is what I was getting at. He can score from anywhere, so the guy will be a good signing. But for so long Arsenal has been on the cusp of being incredible. For so long you've just needed that last little push, that final piece of the puzzle. I think Vardy will be successful but he won't be that piece. Not when you're facing 10 men behind the ball every week.

We are usually linked with a bunch of people. The English press don't have to suffer the same ridicule Americans do. So it's a bunch of bullshite mostly.

But if the vardy signing goes through, that's two big signings early. In years past we had gotten the Sanchez deal early and the petr chech early to do basically nothing after.

Well the word is Wenger is going after mahrez too.

This could be his last hurrah. Pulling out all the stops I hope.

Yeah I agree. Vardy is a stop gap until we find someone in the market who is worth it.

and there's a chance that if we buy Vardy, we will sell Walcott. And probably for about the same amount. So, we essentially swap Walcott for Vardy. Sounds like a great deal to me.

Honestly, if we move Walcott back to RW and keep them both, this would be excellent. Walcott is a better winger than anyone we have save for Alexis, and has produced in the past at a higher level than any of our current wingers (again not including Alexis). What irks me is the short memories people have of Walcott. He's struggled with injuries and confidence after his ACL tear, but between 2010 and 2014 he was one of our best players. Between 2010 and his injury in 2014, he contributed 36 goals and 29 assists, and that is only in league play. And his movement off the ball during that time was excellent because he doesn't like the ball played into feet. For the last couple of years, we get bogged down when teams do ten behind the ball. But Walcott does lots of little things that no one notices. Think back to the goal that Nasri scored against Man U in 2008. If I could find a clip I would post it. But the key that opened up the space for Nasri was two things. The first was Fabregas being able to turn Gary Neville, who was in no man's land. The second was Walcott running in-front of the CB (Vidic in this case) to draw him away from the space.

LINK

Here is a shitty link.

There are many goals like this where he did the intelligent thing. There was a goal that I believe Rooney scored for England against maybe Switzerland which also showcased Walcott's intelligent movement. He also injured his ankle on the same play.

People are turning on Walcott, but I don't think they understand how important he is on the wing. I also think he could excel in a 4-4-2 with a striker partner, as he played amazing in that lopsided 4-2-3-1 we played with RVP. He needs confidence and support. Honestly I think he's better than Campbell and Ox, and the only thing Welbeck beats him on is workrate.

I really hope we don't sell him.

Looks like Vardy has made his decision.

Nevermind. Apparently it is photoshopped.
