i could be giving myself more credit than due, but i'm pretty sure i compared zelalem to özil on here before we signed mesut. i know i said it immediately after! they've got a languid style with sneaky athleticism/burst and while they generally keep it simple with their passes, their ability to retain possession and complete passes in the final third, as well as their eye for the final ball, sets them apart. just hope zelalem puts it together.

wherever he plays for us, i agree with crazy that (if he commits) he will play no. 10 for the USMNT.

The key difference is Ozil is a good athlete. I haven't seen the same explosiveness from Gedion yet. That can develop though as he builds more muscle. He needs to gain about ten more pounds in my view. He's bigger than he was when he first came to us but he's still slight. I tend to think that he will always been on the leaner side, and if there is any reason he cannot make it here, it will be because of the physicality. I remember against Monaco he was easily shrugged off the ball by Kondrogbia when he tired to do that little turn he loves doing. Kondrogbia is also massive, but that sort of physicality is what he should be able to withstand if he's to succeed Ozil as our no. 10.

At the same time it would be better for us if he broke through as a DLP, as then we wouldn't have to buy to replace Arteta. But has there ever been a teenage DLP that broke through at the elite level? That is a ridiculously hard position for a kid. Wilshere sort of played it but he was supposed to be protected by Song.

I feel though that if Wenger feels he is ready then he will be ready. His play this year will determine if he gets that shot going forward.

gedion was a track champion (or at least placed high) in high school races IIRC

Really? What event? He doesn't have the build of a sprinter. I wouldn't be surprised if he did really well in distance events.

Doesn't Verrati play the DLP role for PSG?

I thought about him, but I thought he was a 20 year old? My argument hinges on the teenage distinction.

He's 21 but he's been with PSG for 2 years now.

If he broke through then, he's one of the few. He also has some very experienced partners like Matudi and Motta who shield him. Zelalem, if he breaks through at DLP, will be lucky to have that sort of protection.

Verratti played at DLP for Pescara under Zeman before his move to PSG. Zeman moved him there when he took over. At 18-19, Viviani was many journalist's choice for player of the season in Serie B when Pescara won the league. He was bought by PSG after that season.

I get what you're saying in that he was certainly the exception. It helps that he's a tough little guy that shields the ball so well and also doesn't shy away from whole-hearted tackles like a younger Pizarro.

We look vulnerable on the counter but we've managed to step up and keep it out of net.

Impressive first half, even against a shorthanded City squad.

Though I like what I see out of Debuchy as an attacking fb, I can't help but think how Bacray would handle Alexis's deft passes to the wing.

This bodes well for the regular season. Can't wait to see Alexis and Mesut on the pitch together.

Will Sagna, like Nasri, receive boos every touch at Emirates?

I don't think so. Everyone loved sagna and I think most understood why he left. We weren't going to get into that year and price range.

I hope we don't boo Sagna. He was always classy. A lot of the reason I hate Nasri is that he is a prick who talks shite about arsenal and arsenal fans and then tries to play victim. There's a reason he wasn't getting picked for France, and it had nothing to do with skill.

Yeah, I like Bacray, and while I wish we had signed him, I can understand not going long-term at his age, so I can't blame him for taking the money at Citeh.

I do hope that this is a new era not just of big signings, but of us not losing one star player after another to MaUre, City,or Chelsea.

Nice! That's the kind of pinpoint finishing we need out of Giroud.
