Sucks Arsenal still can't seem to get the 3 points against Chelsea but they are certainly on the right path. A few signings to strengthen the squad in the right places and there's no reason Arsenal can't challenge for the title next season. It's amazing how far this team has come the last few years.

I can understand mentioning the Fabragas one,

I'm sure you can, it was an obvious foul.

but including Oscar's dive in that just makes it hilarious

It shouldn't have been a penalty due to the circumstances of where Oscar was in the box and not really in a threatening position, and I'm sure Oscar went down easy, but it was undoubtedly contact in the box. Certainly would have been no less ridiculous than Ivanovic being sent off.

Agree to disagree. It was hardly obvious. It looked like Fabregas was looking for contact, from the way he swandove like he was expecting contact. LINK

It was right in front of the referee and it was frankly embarrassing. It wasn't a foul outside the box nor in it. The fact that there were no protestations from Cesc should immediately tell you he was trying to pull a fast one on the ref. He even smiled wryly at Santi after the incident. Given your views on diving I'm honestly surprised you are taking this position.

The first Oscar incident wasn't a foul either. LINK

First it looks like a dive because the contact was incidental and caused Oscar to trip over himself. Not a foul.

The only clear cut foul and penalty was the Oscar/Ospina one. None of the handballs. The yellows Ivanovic and Coquelin earned were doing the same exact thing, trying to impose physicality on the opposition's best player, a tactic I'm surprised anyone actually has a problem with, as it worked for both teams. Hazard was quiet and Sanchez kept going down expecting fouls just by mere contact after Ivanovic's first hard tackle, which was ridiculous.

Even then both teams should have done better from the chances they created. Ramires did poorly when he was through from Willian, and Ozil, Mertesacker, and Sanchez (numerous times) scuffed goalmouth opportunities, which you just can't do.

Outside of the late chance for Ozil, I thought Santi blew the best chance.

The one where it hit Cahill's hand? Santi was marked pretty well and if we got anything from that I would have been amazed. He was surrounded by four Chelsea players. Or the one where Koscielny found him at the edge of the box and he skewed it wide?

Contact =/= foul. That was a pathetic dive when he got touched on the shoulder.

Cesc's, I haven't seen a conclusive angle, but he was looking to go down, for certain. Had it been called a penalty I don't think I'd have blamed the ref. Santi sticking his leg out wasn't smart. Glad he was able to pull it back, at least in the ref's estimation.

Oh yeah, Opsina knocked the frick out of him. What's the rule on advantage for that? I want to say you can't play advantage for the shot and call the penalty once the shot is saved/misses. It's either a penalty, or advantage played, not both. But I may be misinterpreting that.

The one he skewed wide. It was one of the few times we really caught them out of sorts because the play Kos made.

I would have been amazed if Oliver pulled that back for the penalty. I suppose he could have done that but I don't think I've seen it done.

Chelsea is 10 points clear and in the driver's seat for the title and here's Randy, in the Arsenal thread, still trying to prove just how right he is on literally everything.

Life must be nice for, Randy

So how about that performance from Bellerin yesterday? Him against Hazard was a big worry and he really held his own against him. He made that great clearance on Oscar's shot.

He really needs to become a better crosser, but he is so impressive at his age.

That and the Ozil/Welbeck miss late hurt. If Santi could've just gotten it on target and forced a block from Courtois, Ramsey was at the back post for a classic Ramsey goal.

I've just been watching highlights today. Interested to see what everyone thinks of individual performances on our side.

The Fabregas one was a foul no question about it. Yes he was looking for contact and yes he went down easy but it doesn't change the fact Santi obliged him by sticking his leg out wrecklessly. I'm fine with it not being called a penalty because of my view on penalties but more times than not it is given and outside the box it's a foul everytime.

Oscar's may not have been a foul and I've said multiple times it shouldn't be a pen but it's not a dive when contact, incidental or not, causes you to fall down.

Agreed, which is why it was surprising to read here that some people thought Ivanovic should be sent off.

Anyway good post overall.

Ramsey, Ozil, Bellerin, and Coquelin really stood out to me.

My one thing is that as much as I love Santi it feels like we would have been better off with Ramsey pairing with Coquelin and playing someone like Theo or Welbz wide.

Someone made what I thought was a great point on Twitter about how we really could have used someone like Ox or Rosicky to drive at the defense. Alexis tried at times, but for the most part we just tried to beat them by passing around them. Plus those 2 aren't afraid to pop a shot every once and a while from range.

Yep. We were playing for a 1-0 home win,and that was the opportunity.

Either of them should have knocked the shite out of the back of the net with that one.

Bellerin and Coq have been great. A revelation really. Gives me hope that our academy has some great players coming up.

Also, it relieves me knowing we're not completely desperate for a DM. Thinking we only had Arteta and Flamini at that spot was worrisome. Chambers might eventually play there but that's far from certain to me.

Hopefully Wenger will continue to give Bellerin the minutes now that Debuchy is back. Not as worried about Coq. I think he'll get his minutes.

I agree Bellerin needs to improve his crossing but I was impressed with his dribbling/composure on Sunday. There was a couple of times he played some nice, tight passes and held the ball well instead of just kicking it. Coq did that too. You can tell Coq is getting more comfortable with his distribution. He doesn't immediately get rid of it like he did a couple of months ago.

You miss the point but that's not a surprise.

I hope these attempts to belittle have been therepeutic for you. I'm sure it's been a long hard ride these past 11+ years.
