according to AS, Chelsea wants Higuain. if true, we've got no hope on that front.

Can't be understated enough. That in itself is almost equivalent to a big signing.

I just can't believe Arsene didn't come into the transfer window with major conviction, especially considering all the things you just said.

I'm actually fine with that. Mourinho can probably get more out of Higuain than we can.

It's an amazing realization to make. We've lost some great players. If they all had stayed, or rather, if they all had been healthy at the same time (looking at you here RvP) we would have won the title in 2007-08 and 09-10.

Well actually this doesn't surprise me. Arsene is pensive and conservative in the transfer market to a fault. He's not a risk taker, unless that risk is a bargain.

Then again, I don't look at the transfer market and see a player who is affordable and who fits our style so perfectly that we shouldn't miss him.

I think his aim this market was to go after that underrated tier 2 player just below the likes of Suarez, Rooney, Cavani, and Falcao. Usually there is an underrated hidden gem who gets glossed over. I feel like Liverpool got a player like that in Aspas. But that tier 2 sort of player who can easily be amazing under the right circumstances has become more of a rarity than elite players. It's not like Wenger can unearth a youth player who can change games like he did with Anelka in 98. It's big news whenever an Arsenal scout is at a game because our scouting system has been right so often. This tier 2 market is where Wenger has mostly excelled, getting bargains after bargains. Wenger has to change his thinking now that he has money to spend. The last time he had money to spend was 2001, when he spent 26 mil and only brought in 5 mil. It's a different market with different prices and Wenger has to get out of that sort of thinking, which is hard to do.

What is highly likely is that there will be some overpriced castoffs in the January market that we will have to get, because of Wenger's reluctance this window. We just need some players to step up in a big way.

Just watched the vietnam match... ho le fuk.

Young guys look great, we just need some of these guys to show and we wont have to spend big. Guess the only thing im upset ab is there were great players available in the past for less than what weve been reported to offer this transfer window. Im not opposed to not spending big, but bring in a few guys like last season just to add to depth so we dont have to go through this again. Maybe win one fricking trophy instead of sending all kids out there to lose.

just to continue silly season talk, another Arsenal Twitter "insider" says were interested in higuain and 2 CFs in Germany and that we've put in a bids on two of those three of £25m. he says the dominoes for who we will get depend on when/if Real get Bale, their first choice.

also says we're not interested in Suarez and that Rooney to Chelsea will be haggled out soon and that Ivan wants him, but AW doesn't want someone in on double the wages of everybody else.

says he's decided not to get a GK and get a CB, likely one of 2 they've scouted heavily in France.

I'm seeing in a couple places that Higuain is going to stay at Real.

Have we mentioned Bendtner yet this thread?

No.

Well Bendtner has quashed two transfers because Eintracht Frankfurt and Hull City won't meet his wage demands.

Classic Beowulf.

I think we have somewhere, surely. I've posted about his transfer dealings multiple times. May have been in the transfer thread only though.

word is we've told him we aren't going to loan him out. so it's get your shite together and come to terms with a team or miss out on the world cup because you haven't played in a year.

actually, just looked at the guy's timeline finally, and it's all bullshite, as one would expect. however, this guy did it as an intentional exercise to show how those RTs spread like wildfire

I like that we haven't lost anyone of any real value, and that we've gotten rid of some of the dead weight (would still like to see Gervinho and Beowulf shipped out), but if we don't make at least one major signing I'm going to be pretty depressed.

An ESPN Brazil reporter is saying that we are set to purchase Atletico Mineiro's Bernard.
LINK
Link has the tweet in question and a video of highlights. Looks like an impressive AM with an eye for goal. Small though - 5'5, like Santi.

Suarez is not worth 55M£. I wouldn't go over 30M£. I know he's good and that he fits well, but someone better could be around the corner. Don't blow your load too quick.

Why do people want Suarez when you have me?
