Stoke took out Moussa Dembele with a stupid tackle in extra time a couple years ago and obviously there's the Ramsey thing, but overall their reputation for dirty play is slightly overdone IMO. And their fans booing Ramsey was classless, obviously, but it doesn't have anything to do with their play on the field.
They still play boring, ugly football though so I hope they get relegated for that alone. But I've watched more Stoke games than I would have liked to over the last few years and it's not like they're just taking people out regularly.

Stoke were dead last in the Fair Play table last year, a far better quantifier of the style of play of teams. It includes more than just the total cards awarded against teams. Wenger hinted at this when responding to Pulis' snide remarks.
There's nothing ethically wrong with playing kick and rush with the many limitations Stoke face as a football club. Teams like Blackpool and Hull City attempted to play attractive football upon promotion, and didn't survive, because attacking football in the EPL requires exceptional and expensive talent. Stoke and Pulis did precisely what they needed to do to avoid instant relegation by grinding ugly results.
The cynical fouling, scare tactics and dangerous play should not be admired.

Not but when they play Arsenal they try to intimidate us with physical challenges. They always tend to play a little "harder" when facing us.

Maybe so, you guys would know more about that then I do. I don't feel right "defending" Stoke as it is, as they're on the top of my list as far as teams I'd like to see relegated. But when I watch them it's usually their boring style which bothers me more than their dirty play.

They've been in the bottom 5 of the fair play table for a while. I don't think they go out to go injure players, but they try to play a physical style, and sometimes this leads to terrible injuries.

Newcastle is marginally above Stoke in the Fair Play table, but they don't have the same reputation for being egregiously dirty.

Because they haven't injured anyone. There is a difference between tactical fouling, physical play and reckless play. Stoke continually borders on reckless play. That's the difference.

Pretty much agree with that about the physical play, but I'm not sure Wolves were that different at times.
Granted I don't really know all that goes into fair play. Fulham have had like one red card in three years (that could be inaccurate but not by much) so I'm not sure how we aren't on top usually (I know that's how we got Into the Europa league one year).

Mannone starts at GK. Worried a little bit.

Im worried a hell of a lot. He can have a shocker like Olympiacos last year. We really need 3 pts badly today. Hope we come out with a fighting spirit because we are going to need it. I think he got the first 11 right. Stoke will sit back so starting Gervinho over Walcott is the right move. We can always bring Wally in as a sub if needed.

I'm glad Wenger was brave enough to drop Walcott to the bench. He's completely ineffective without Sagna.

Chamakh to Malaga on loan apparently.
Also, our chief negotiator is in Germany...could just be regarding a Beowulf sale. Rumors we're going after a midfielder...

First off thank you Steve Bould. We haven't looked this organized and disciplined in a long time. Jenkinson is either scared to push up or has been told to hang around the halfway line but he has provided nothing offensively. Diaby can dribble but is loose in possession. He is tall but doesn't use his height. I would bring Ox on for Diaby to add some creativity. Gervinho also struggling to have an impact. Maybe bring on Walcott later in the 2nd half.

Well...we kept a clean sheet... :shrugs:
A little disappointing our attack has, well, sucked. Takes time to adapt, i suppose. Hopefully we get that going.

Well another clean sheet is positive. We desperately need another quality midfielder to start opposite Arteta. Giroud and Poldoski both looked much better than last game. Cazorla was good again. Gibbs is improving and has really impressed so far. Once the squad is settled and our guys begin to gel we will score goals. Diaby needs to be on the subs bench.

Diaby doesn't even need to be on the bench. He shouldn't be selected right now. Granted he was out for a long time last year. It will take him a while to get on form.
I'm really impressed at how we look defensively. Hopefully we can keep this up.

Well shite.
Should I be ecstatic about our defense or worried about our offense?
