I’ll be in Madrid on the 25th and they are playing Malaga at home. I got my hands on some tickets and am pretty pumped. Anyone been to a game in Santiago Bernabéu Stadium? Any recommendations?
TIA!
TIA!

Everyone I know who has been, has said it’s fantastic and most the fans are very welcoming.
One of my biggest regrets is not going to one when i lived in Europe.

I went in September and it was a great time, except for the losing to Real Betis part.
We took the metro there and back, and it was no issue. The crowd control of getting so many people on the trains efficiently was amazing.
We got there right before the gates opened, but that was a little unnecessary, it was easy getting into the stadium.
We didn’t eat dinner before, and didn’t bring food into the stadium, but I would suggest bringing in food. The stadium looked like a giant picnic at halftime with everyone eating.

Where are you staying? As for logistics, take the 10 line to Santiago Bernabéu. Doesn’t get any easier than that. But if you want to avoid the crowd when you’re leaving the game, see if you can walk to a different metro station to get home. The 1 and 10 lines are annoyingly crowded after home games, but that’s to be expected. Pro tip: if you get a train pass that includes “cercanías” trains (commuter trains) you can walk to Nuevos Ministerios and take that. Not crowded at all. Pro tip two: don’t take a cab to the stadium, traffic will back up and you’ll be very late to the match.
You can bring a snack and cigarettes into the stadium. It’s kind of funny to see a bunch of grown Spaniards pull out a little lunch bag with their sandwich and smoke a cigarette during halftime. I’ve never eaten stadium food, but they have hot dogs and some other American style stuff. Not sure of the prices.
Last match I went to was with two Spurs fans and we had a great time speaking to some locals. If you’re not seated with the ultras then there’s a good chance you’ll have some welcoming people around you, just don’t act like an idiot.
You don’t have to get there early unless you want to watch warm ups or buy a scarf or something. If you’re wandering around outside the stadium be careful about drinking. Many people do it, but there’s a hefty fine if a cop decides to give you a ticket. Entry isn’tt like LSU where students have to wait in line for an eternity to get in the stadium.
Brush up on some Spanish, especially the Spanish you’ll hear at the stadium on the loudspeaker, like the Real Madrid song. Pray for a Cristiano goal, and then yell “RONALDO!” three times when appropriate and follow it up with the signature celebration and a “SIUUUU”.
Edit for some general advice on traveling in Spain: Don’t fricking talk about fascism, Franco, or Catalonia. Don’t call Real “Franco’s team”. It’s not a joke. They won’t think it’s funny.

Any mf'er that does this deserves all of what they get with the political temperature in Spain right now.

thanks everyone for the advice.
I'm staying at Hotel Palacio Del Retiro on Alfonso XII.
Anyone have more info on the drink situation? I know there is no booze sold in the stadium, but someone told me that you can bring your own in??? Is that true? If so, how?

Joking, making light of, whatever you want to call it. No matter which way you spin it, you’re a fricking count. To equate being a Madridista or even Madrileño to being a fascist is unbelievably ignorant. Take your trash opinions and hot takes and frick off.

I’ve never seen people with obvious booze. I’d tread carefully, as it is a decent fine to be caught drinking in public and foreigners make easy targets for police and petty criminals alike.

Nice location. Not the best for getting to the Bernabéu, though. Quickest would be a bus, easiest would probably be taking the red line to Noviciado and switching to the 10 line at plaza de España (a tunnel connects the stations).
