I just signed up for the player pick-up program and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. I'm just looking to get in some games and maybe get in with a team that might need an extra person.

Hey

I play on monday and wednesday(coed). The monday is a very competitive league that our team has been playing for several seasons. Wed. is a fairly competitive coed league. Both are fun and great exercise.

What night did you sign up for? How much experience do you have?

I didn't sign up for any particular night. From my understanding, they have pick up games Thursdays and Sundays and some team managers might show up to pick up some extra players.

I played rec ball at LSU for 3 years and an indoor season at Premier soccer center. I don't have a lot of experience and am just kind of looking to get back into at this point (it's been about a year since I've played in an actual league).

I enjoy it but haven't played since I tore my ACL. I was disappointed by the refereeing, especially since one team went out of their way to injure our players. One a-hole even elbowed me, after the game was over, because I was trying to talk to the referee. If I was head of the league I would have kicked that team out. It's fun, but understand that the quality of refereeing is shoddy at times.

It's a really well organized league. And when I got there the first time I was completely shocked there was a cool little turf field tucked away back there.

Y'all play at Harrell Stadium?

Anybody know about the pick up games they have on Thursday and Sunday?

I think they do have a couple of pick up nights, but I've never participated in those leagues.

Our Monday night league started yesterday and we may have an open spot. Most of the league's management is in Brazil (returning soon I would thing) and they may be able to set you up.

The league you're in is for pretty experienced players though right?

It's for the fairly experienced player, even though it's competitive 2.

I've played most of my life, though took a hiatus after college. I'm in the older half aged players in the league but I can still run. If you know the game and are in some shape it's worth a try. You should just show up one night and check it out. They have games at Green elementary, Harrel, and City Park.

I'll go Thursday night to the pick up game at Harrell and see what it's all about. I didn't start playing till college so no one is exactly vying for my services so it'll but tough to get on a team but I'll give it a shot.

I run a couple times a week so I at least have fitness in my favor

I play in the Monday coed league as well and have been impressed the past few seasons with the quality of play. Definitely makes for some competitive matches.

Harrell Stadium. From what i gather is that you pay a fee each month, and you can play in the pick-up games and some people watch and look for players to join there team

Is that at Harrel? I'm in the mens league at Green on Monday.

The Wed. league I'm in is coed. I think it's Comp. 1, but I'm not sure how much difference there is.

It splits between Harrel and City Park. It is exclusively at Harrel this current season so the fields can regrow at CP.

I played in the Saturday men's league at Green and really enjoyed that as well. Again, it was great competition. I quit last fall because of conflicts with LSU football games and never started back in that league.

Also, I've never done the pick up game but it sounds like a great way to pick up a team if you don't have one.

We got a few of our players from Craigslist surprisingly enough.
