He wasn't on the bench because there's almost certainly stuff going on behind the scenes. Since that game, Chelsea denied his transfer request, and I'm sure he and the club are not on great terms right now.

This same thing happened with Mahrez last January when City tried to poach him after missing on Sanchez.
Obviously Mahrez is a bit bigger of a household name and his situation was a bit different, but the actions are ultimately the exact same lol

Yeah, I'm not saying he stays or goes, but when a guy puts in a transfer request and the team denies it, it's not crazy to understand why he's not in the 18. Chelsea clearly want him. They turned down 35 mil and are risking losing him for nothing. If he wasn't in the 18, it's probably on him or because he's barely played any senior matches and just played 90 minutes a few days ago.
