I mean Depay is unproven in a big league whatsoever. It would have been extremely dumb to pay more than United did for him. He's just another player who doesn't account for anything special when it comes to the team.
And Sterling is?
quote:
Sterling has been successful in the PL, but had an off year this past year because he was having to do pretty much everything on his own, however, I'm not saying Sterling is a world class player. He could be, but right now I'd say he is anywhere between an average-above average PL player depending on his form.
He also can count towards the home grown player count, which United doesn't have problems with thanks to being successful for so long. City will eventually get to that, but it's a process.
Sterling without Suarez who is a real world class player has been awful. His touch and finishing is very bad. When you pay 50 million thats paying for world class level players.
United have home grown talent bc of the club's philosophy and youth academy that goes back a long time not bc we were good.
City had a similar philosophy before the take over but were just not as good at it. City's track record with English players since the takeover is embarrassing.
quote:
When it comes down to it, Sterling is better than Depay is right now. Depay has never been in an extremely competitive league and therefore only has the wide open Eredivisie to go off of.
One player scores twice in the World Cup, the other scores vs Lithuania. One player has scored more goals in one season( in a lesser league) than the other has his entire career.

If you don't think a healthy Sturridge would have offered any relief or help to Sterling last year than maybe my respect for your soccer knowledge, which is pretty high TBH, should be rethought.

Once again, Jozy freaking Altidore had as many league goals (39) as Depay did in the Eridivisie in 23 less games. We all know how Altidore turned out when he came back to the PL. You can't compare the Eridvisie and the players coming over to those in who are already here. It's a proven fact that the league in the Netherlands is much more wide open. Depay won't be able to run as free as he did over there. He's a good player, but right now he isn't as good as Sterling is.

Sterling was also asked to play out of position quite a bit this season... But yes, he benefited greatly last season with Suarez and Studge.. as any teenager (or player) would.. He was not ready to become the focal point of our attack (nor did we expect that of him going into the season).
He did seem to mail it in down the stretch, but so did our whole squad..
Of course he isn't worth 50mm right now, but I hope you pay it

Sterling statistically actually had a better year this year. But he looked like arse.

Stop comparing a winger to a striker in Jozy. Saying Sterling is better than Depay is laughable. Just look at their performance for the national teams. Its a push at best.
Just bc you keep saying Sterling is better to justify paying 50 million pounds for a player worth half of that does not make you right.

Horse is dead bro, that way doesn't work anymore and your club is realizing it. You guys are firmly in with the big spending money clubs now. Embrace it, it's unfortunate but it's the reality in 2015.

Sterling isn't very good. He'd be worth about £10 mil if he wasn't English.

Not really just look at how many English players we have right now. United ever since you could bring non English players has always brought in non English stars to play with a heavy English roster.
And with the home grown rules in play we are ahead of the curve.

Outside of Rooney, and sometimes Carrick, your English players are your worst ones. All the defenders blow and I will grant you some are young but they, right now, are just squad players who will be replaced in the future by bigger names when it's clear they simply aren't Manchester United caliber.

Young has been awesome under LvG
Smalling has been surprisingly good as well as Jones under LvG. Way better than last year under Moyes. Shaw when he wasn't hurt or fat was good.
And we have some good exiting youth academy guys.
We will always still bring in big name non English talent.

Ashley Young had a great year.
Posted on 6/23/15 at 2:39 pm to GingerMerkin
Ashley Young is such a disgraceful player I don't care how well he does or doesn't perform. With that said, if you are counting on winning PL or CLs with Ashley Young being one of your best players, good luck with that.

Not comparing the two, I'm just saying that even Jozy, who sucks dick for his club and is usually great for his country scored a lot of goals in the Dutch league. He can't even score in the MLS.
I'm also not saying Sterling is anywhere close to a 50 mil player, i would say he's worth no more than 25, but Liverpool are lookin for a reason to get rid of him and they know City will pay whatever it takes.

The topic was English players so I responded with an English player. I'm not sure how you got yourself confused.

I didn't say they lacked English players. They just lack good ones.

Ashley Cole could be headed to Newcastle.

Compared to what other teams?
Who in the top 6 has better English talent other than Arsenal?
Posted on 6/23/15 at 5:07 pm to StraightCashHomey21
None of the good ones, that's my point. Nobody can really be on a high horse anymore because the way money has changed the game elite clubs can't wait around for the young "homegrown" talent to mature.
