AC Milan are set to approach Edinson Cavani, according to Sky Italia. AC Milan’s director Adriano Galliani has made his desire to sign the PSG striker Edinson Cavani clear and will approach the player’s team in the next few days.

Juventus have also been linked with the player and Manchester United have been credited with an interest too should Robin van Persie move on.

Manchester United are nearing a £7.5million deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to The Sunday People.

Schweinsteiger – who will be 31 in August – only has a year left on his deal with Bundesliga champions Bayern. The German is tempted to link-up with Van Gaal, who has managed him before between 2009 and 2011.

I never compared the two as players, just the £, relative to the position they play... Im not saying it was a bad purchase either...

Im just saying he was probably overpriced because he was english... what other "best CBs in the world" were going for that sort of coin?

and for the record, £50mm is wayyyyyy to much for Sterling, but Id be over the moon if they pay it!

edit: I'd have loved to keep him, because he has so much potential.. but the last half of the season I question his heart a bit and his "advisors".. That kind of money is too good to pass up...

Back then it didn't matter. Now with home grown requirements that value has made them sky rocket.

Just wait till the Head of FA get the 12 Home grown players rule introduced. Prices will be even higher for englishmen in 17/18.

Is the Mario Mandzukic deal done??? I read it was done, then Skysports, papertalk has Mancheter united in the mix??

Such a shame for Atletico, Valencia, Sevilla, etc. All feeder teams for Top 2, and the rest of Europe. All because the top 2 want all the monies.

Clubs who suck at producing their own talent are going to be paying out the arse.

Inter about to splash some more cash. Reported they are going to pay €19m for Marseille's Giannelli Imbula.

Where is Inter getting that money from? I thought they were broke...

Their new owner, Thohir, has been more in line the American owners at Roma than say the Russian oligarch or oil monarch types in terms of trying to diminish operating loss and debt.

The promise that extra money would be spent for Mancini to build the roster was the main reason he accepted the job.

However, like StraightCash says, the issue has been more FFP in terms of them buying than that Thohir doesn't have money to invest.

That's kind of why you see most Italian fans being so skeptical of FFP when they see that 2 of the 3 clubs in the league that have done the most toward building infrastructure, increasing revenue, and consistently diminishing debt being picked out by UEFA. (James Pallotta just had some pretty pointed words about this recently in describing FFP related decisions as Kafka-esque.

So, I guess my next question is with Kondogbia and possibly Imbula (which is odd, since they are both DMs).. Are they shipping out Kovacic? We've been linked with him all summer, with a deal imminent for quite some time.. depending on who you believe..

I think Nesta transferred the same year for 33% less to AC Milan during Berlusconi's salad days.

JT didn't pass Rio for the best English CB until about 2010/11. Rio was always the first choice English CB. Don't be dense.

There is some selective memory here. Rio was a better ball-playing CB than Terry and in the early noughties was by far the better of the two. It was only later that Terry caught up and in some seasons surpassed him. At 20 or so Rio lead a team to a CL semi-final and was captain. Terry is and was a great CB, but acting as if Rio wasn't in the top three CB's in the league during his prime is lunacy. For me Rio's ball-playing skills always put him above Terry, though JT developed more as a passer later in his career. Ball playing CB's of Rio's size and athleticism are among the rarest of players, and Rio's career justifies his price tag. If anything a player like Rio would go upwards of 50 million today, and actually deserve it.

He only has 19 career la liga red cards

He could really help mentor the younger guys on the back line as well as slot in a starter straight away.
