This
SAF was known for just getting his guy even if they were 25-30 million then nothing else.
And when the roster needed to be gutted then he went on a spending spree.

Louis is going to be so grumpy this season. When they finally turn it around, he'll be sure to tell everyone how great he is.
His comments on Di Maria post match were awesome

City spent like madmen to catch up but it seems like they're kind of slowing down in that regard.
yeah their big 2 signings the past 2 offseasons have been CDMs
they spent really recklessly when the arab money took over, but then made some key signings that have remained the backbone of that team. yaya, silva, kun, etc. they've calmed the frick down since they won their first title. nothing stupid or inflated

And LFC have only spent £35m net after the Suarez sale plus a couple other deals.
That's the beauty of Luis.. he keeps giving even after he leaves...
Seriously, we didn't need an overhaul, the foundation was in place.. we just needed depth! Luis leaving allowed us to do that and not come out of pocket that much... we don't have the financial strength that some of the others do, but hopefully that will change in the coming years... If the Balotelli deal comes good, it will be a masterstroke... We are so young and set up well for the future...

rumors flying around that Roma have signed Kostas Manolas as a replacement for Benatia, who is going to Bayern. however, German press say Bayern is still negotiating on that with Roma. arsenal's CB search continues, i guess.
oh, and giroud is out for weeks, apparently, so we might be in the CF market as well.
juve and napoli rumored to be in the running to take poldi off our hands.

Seems the Medhi Benatia saga is beginning to clear.
Word is that AS Roma may have reached agreements for 2 CBs: Kostas Manolas from Olympiakos and Marko Basa from Lille.
This clears the way to get rid of the distracting headache Benatia has become. Seems Bayern is most likely to sign Benatia but they don't want to pay him a much higher salary than Roma so the door still seems open for a ManU or another club since Benatia is after the biggest payday.
Kostas Manolas: seems likely to Roma at this point though Arsenal is rumored to still be vying for his signature. Both clubs seem to have met Olympiakos' asking price and his wage demands so it will likely just come down to where he chooses.
If Arsenal do end up winning his signature, word is that Sabatini has an agreement in place with Tottenham for Vlad Chiriches though Manolas seems clearly the first choice.
Marko Basa: The main reason Roma want him is that he played so many years under Garcia at Lille. However, Roma took a tough blow when Basa was injured this past week and will be out for 2-3 weeks. His familiarity with Garcia's system would have helped immensely in the first couple of matches since Castan is out for a couple of weeks as well.

Apparently Benatia has said he wants to go to Bayern that's why the Bayern board is offering less than €30 mil.

I do think he certainly prefers Bayern to ManU. He's run his mouth a lot and he'll lose a bit of face if he goes to a side with no CL.
However, I hear other issue aside from Roma/Bayern agreeing on a fee, is that Bayern actually have a decent wage structure in place.
Benatia turned down a deal from Roma that would have netted him around €3m per season after taxes.
Bayern's offer of €6m pre tax would only be a very slight increase over Roma's offer.
At this point he's done with Roma regardless but I think it may open the door for another club since salary has been the issue the entire time and not really that he wanted to leave Roma before the drama over his raise.
He's run his mouth a lot about Roma not paying what he's "worth" but that was when Man City with their crazy wages were the ones with whom his agent was negotiating.

Yeah. Bayern has a pretty solid wage structure. Toni wanted to bust it up and Bayern's board wasn't having it.

My guess is that he's ultimately going to agree to Bayern but he's going to get ridiculed in the press after he and his agent have been harping about his "deserved" "payday" all summer.
Roma offered him the same salary as Chiellini and it seems that's about the exact amount Bayern is offering.
