Technically religious groups cannot spend tax money for religious purposes. They can only spend it for charity and the charity must serve ALL citizens (you cannot say this charity is only for Muslims). From what I understand the Muslim center that got $11 million runs a shelter for women who get beat up (oh the irony). If they truly do leave the shelter open for everyone, they are in the clear. Also, you cannot "preach" with government money. You cannot use the shelter as a way to try and convert people. It must remain secular. I don't like it, but that's the way it works for Christian charities and all the rest. Personally I hate all of these 501 c3's. it should not be the government's job to be a charity service. If people want to run charities with private money, have at it.
