No. Not the same. Not even close.

The modern democrat party has run off almost of the Liberals. It’s almost exclusive Leftist now. Leftists aren’t champions of freedom-at-any-cost the way Liberals were.

In fact, they are strict authoritarians that use intimidation and censorship to enforce compliance with their dogma.

Leftists fought against censorship and intimidation of those with unpopular ideas. Leftists fully embrace those techniques.

One should ask... if they use threats and censorship—are they likely to build a more democratic future? Or a more authoritarian future?

I could always respect Liberals even when I didn’t agree with them. Leftists are more akin to terrorists. They are cannot be compromised with.
