So it isn’t education, work ethic, desire, morals or any of that. Just boils down to some folks have money and some don’t.

New Jersey Gov Proposes $1,000 Baby Bonds to Bridge Wealth Gap Read Newsmax: Newsmax - Breaking News | News Videos | Politics, Health, Finance

quote:

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Tuesday will announce a proposal to entitle most children born in the state to $1,000, which would be payable with interest to the child when they turn 18, The New York Times reports.

quote:

Murphy, a Democrat, told the Times in an interview that the initiative is intended to help bridge the increasingly wide wealth gap that has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, which has had a disproportionate effect on Black and Latino people. “The inequities are too wide, too raw, to ignore,” he said.

quote:

The source of inequality generally is that some young adults have capital and others do not,” said Darrick Hamilton, the incoming Henry Cohen professor of economics and urban policy at The New School. “The difference between a renter and a homeowner is a down payment.” Hamilton added, “This is saying: Irrespective to the family you are born into, that you have a birthright to capital when you become an adult.

I think the genesis of this stupidity is the belief in the black community that white kids just get $10K handed to them when they graduate HS.

You have the right to be a failure if you choose. Don't expect me to pay for that. Don't expect me to be your slave and work hard to provide you with what you want.

When I moved away after college at age 22 I had $1000 in my pocket. Not even enough for security deposit and first month rent. People have always figured it out . Gubment gravy ain’t the answer.

Assuming a 5% interest rate which is high compared to current bank rates that is less than $2,500 at age 18. With the likely inflation over the next 18 years that plan is really going to help those babies out.

Just another feel good waste of money.
