Presumably the same way it factors into the "Big 3" also having received massive government support.

Incorrect. Ford received nothing.

not true

Forbes

(from 2012)
quote:

Ford Motor owes the government $5.9 billion it borrowed in June 2009, the same month GM filed for bankruptcy.

The Obama Administration, dreaming of a million electric cars on the road by 2015, loaned Ford the money to help it pay for development of hybrids and EVs, and to retool its factories to produce smaller, cleaner vehicles. While not characterized as a “bailout” by any means, let’s be honest: Ford’s loan – received at a critical time when other sources of financing weren’t available to automakers or their suppliers – no doubt helped the carmaker survive the industry crisis and contributed to its strong market position today, especially after the Obama Administration finalized tougher fuel economy rules this week.

quote:

No company was a bigger beneficiary of the DOE’s green car funding initiative than Ford. It received two-thirds of the $8.8 billion loaned under the department’s Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing program. Congress appropriated $25 billion for that program in late 2008, during the waning days of the Bush Administration, around the same time the auto company CEOs were getting grilled on Capitol Hill.

How does the knowledge that Tesla has banked approximately $4 Billion in government subsidies factor into this principled discussion of the free market?

Two wrongs don't make a right. We can debate Tesla's billion dollar subsidies separately. However, the laws on dealerships are antiquated. That's hard to debate.

Yeah, Ford actually got over $5 billion to retool its factories to produce electric cars in 2009.

Do you enjoy being wrong so much? And I wasn't even referring to these specific and recent green subsidies. I'm referring to many decades of both direct and quasi-direct government support.

What was that quote about people not really wanting to see a free man, cause of they did, it'd scare the hell out of them?

Something like that.

I have no idea haha. The idea of a free market scares people, but an actual free market wouldn't be any scarier than this shite show we have now.

And I think you'd be VERY hard pressed to find anyone who would support such. I mean in a real free market, I could keep my kitchen as clean as I wanted, or as dirty, and if people didn't want to die, they could choose another place to eat, for example.

Yep, and there'd be a private body that would go around inspecting kitchens so that restaurants could earn their seal of approval which they could use in advertisements to entice customers. Those who ran dirty kitchens would inevitably attract lawsuits from people sickened by tainted food. Between the legal bills and the bad press, they would surely pay the price for having a clean kitchen whether or not one was a legal necessity.
