Because by all indications many, if not a majority of them were.

Just like those visitors had rights to protest and assemble in town, the counter-protestors did as well. Only one side mowed down pedestrians.

Counter protestors may have crossed some lines, but they were counter-protestors. If you are going to try and point the finger at them for anything they said and claim they crossed a line, then the line was already crossed well before then by the aggressive nazi gathering and protestors. You know, the unite the right gathering that was already declared an unlawful assembly.
