Are you OK?

You seem to be melting over being educated on very simple pieces of information.

Do I need to have ChatGPT translate my language to that of a 2 year old, or something?

Or are you admitting this discussion is just beyond you?

The pertinent part is bolded since you seem to be having trouble with it, still, even after it was explained to you in detail.

You and Roger claim that tariffs placed by the USA would make us POOR
Any claim that tariffs would have negative economic effects beyond those of other (equivalent revenue) tax options is uninformed.

Normal taxes aimed at redistributing from the productive to unproductive make us more poor, too, no doubt.

Its redistribution of resources, of course it will have negative economic effects.

In just three iterations, the $1 guy does much better.

But that's not a valid progression in economics.

As developing countries improve their GDP, the % of GDP growth will decline.

The dollar guy gained a dollar.

The five dollar guy gained a dollar twenty five.

The five dollar guy is doing better than the dollar guy.

Precisely. The closer you get to max output, the lower capacity for growth you will have.

Without massive innovation.

Your words.

Then you post the chart of GDP! Now you want to move to Per Capita, a flawed method. Are you trying to say Qatar citizens are as rich as we are?

We're discussing the different rates of GDP% change and why the economic status of a country drastically affects this.

China's huge GDP growth is impressive, but less impressive than the USA's GDP growth over the same time period, due to difference in the economies of the USA compared to China. Per Capita GDP is being used as one variable to show the drastic differences in economic status in the 2 countries.

So, just to summarize.

China overtaking us in total GDP means little for this discussion.

The USA's growth in the chart in OP is more impressive than China's growth, despite China's % being larger.

The USA's economy is in a tier of its own compared to the world.

The USa's amazing growth is likely caused in large part by trade with China (there is a correlation, and I argue a cause, like with AUS).

Redistributive tariffs will make us more poor compared to an economy without them.

If the US government were a business, it would go bankrupt.

No one would invest in it because its debt is too high and it consistently loses money every year to the tune of trillions.

Do you know any successful businesses that consistently spend more than they take in and is already massively in the red?

Per your new metric that you want to use, Qatar is higher than us. So I ask again, are you saying that the citizens of Qatar make more than the citizens in the USA?

So the answer is no. They won't make us poor.
