No one is in charge. It’s a market.

So the market set the pay for congressman and police officers? I'll hang up and listen

Are you equating civil service jobs with entertainment/sales jobs?

For the police, absolutely.
You are paid based on replaceability. Just because the government is the employer doesn’t mean that the salary isn’t subject to market forces. If pool of candidates for police officers were smaller, they would easily demand a higher salary and the government would have to figure out a way to comply. It’s the same with teachers.
What percentage of people in a society have the aptitude to be a police officer or teacher? It’s really high. Therefore, those positions can be easily replaced meaning the salary value of the position remains low.
It’s has absolutely nothing to do with how hard someone works or how risky the job is.

Will give em some credit as soccer is the only sport they’re more successful in than men

Market sets the rate for all jobs. The fact that the women agree to play on the team for the pay they do receive shows that it's enough.
The women are free to negotiate and/or choose not to participate on the WNT if they have better opporunity elsewhere. The truth is that they don't, and that's the main reason they don't get paid more.
I have high respect for police officers and firemen...but they get paid what they are worth. We know because there isn't a shortage of them.

I’m willing to pay them to make me a sandwich. Not to kick a ball past other women.

Our women are the highest paid female soccer players in the world. If our women's team went belly up tomorrow, most of them could do just as well as their next choice if they just went and managed a McDonalds.
Meanwhile, if our men's team went belly up, they ALL could STILL make multiples of what the US Women's team makes.
Just another part of the market in that, part of what drives how much I pay you is how much it takes me to keep you from going to your alternative choice.

It's common sense.
I'm amazed at people who don't see this without looking and instead blame their resulting perception of unfairness on "powers that be".

I’m sure their argument will be that this is false. Very few government entities are profit-driven. They provide services paid for by tax dollars.

Bonus for winning the World Cup? Totally.
Pay Increase? No.
I struggle to believe the US Women’s practice team, second team, girls #24-46, whatever you want to call them, would struggle at winning the World Cup, or are at risk of playing for another country’s team (like the men struggle with). The pool of players for the US is relatively deep, the players are locked in to playing for the team, and there are probably plenty of them that would be willing to pay less for an opportunity to play for the team.
And then there’s the Men’s Team, which should be a case study for Title IX.

And, as I've pointed out a few times on this. Since we know the real reason the women's game doesn't get paid like the men's(revenue), then we have to look to why the revenue is lower.
Revenue is translated into eyeballs that watch.
And, on this front, a majority who watch the WOMEN are STILL...............men!
An enormous part of why women's revenue is lower is that female fans also don't give a frick about their team.
That's because sports of any kind are watched by men more than women AND...........a not insignificant portion of women who watch sports do so because..............well............Ronaldo is hot.

If they want to get paid like the men why dont they just identify as a man and play on the mens team.
Isnt that how it is supposed to work?

their 15 minutes are up now, they can go back to starbucks and bitch about who gets to wear the purple hair this week

Megan really set the entire team back with the public. When you alienate not only republicans but also at least half of the straight people in the country who don’t agree with your lifestyle don’t wonder why people don’t care.

I think conservatives need to stop getting up in arms about this. If liberals can bitch and moan and people listen, o well. Venus Williams did this about the prize money at majors in tennis, it worked, and the world kept moving. Public relations is the free market, too.
