With the increase in deliveries over the years, why does the USPS still need funding?

Reports are they may close by June without federal funding. Why can fedex and UPS turn a profit and USPS is $200 million in debt?

Currently they deliver 1/3 of all amazon packages. And have exclusive delivery rights to all marked - US mail.

I guess I know the answer to my question - bloated government agency straddled by entitlements.

They should let it fail or privatize it.

They’re going to use the need to deliver during the coronavirus crisis to get their funding and continue their bloat.

my fat arse could've walked it my condo here in MS in that timeframe.

It doesn't even matter to me if it turns a profit, but there's no reason they should be having weekend deliveries, at all, if they aren't turning a profit.

Because fedex and UPS don’t have congressmen that use their power to stop them from changing their deliver schedule when it is unprofitable or shutting down locations that lose money.

Unions..union pay scale..bloated benefits and pensions.
SSDD for government.
After they get what they ask for, what do they want?
More.

It's no different than the leftist mind set.

The Inevitability of Incrementalism. It's how we got into the mess we're in in the first place.

How conveeenient.

Are they required by law to have taxpayers bail them out for their incompetence anytime they want more??

Walk into one and tell me two things:

1. Would 80% of the workers be able to hold a job in a real company?

2. Are any of the processes and tools they are using any better than what you would have seen in 1995?

It’s the government.

We’re funded solely off postage. No tax money. Well, prior to this request I suppose. I can’t speak for the whole system of course, but I’m not seeing a slowdown or losses in Bham. People seem to be ordering the crap outta stuff while they’re home bound. And I’m not aware of management compensation or their benefits. I’ve been with the USPS only 6 years after 35+ in retail/route sales. None of my contemporaries or myself are getting rich at the post office. It seems only slightly better than mid level private jobs I’ve had. We’re required to serve every address. Private outfits will never do that. We deliver a lot of their stuff. It adds up. Try to figure the logistics of servicing every address in the nation and see if you could do it better or with less. I’m not blind. There’s waste. I just don’t think it’s close to what some think. And I won’t even try to defend hiring practices. Anyway, there’s a lot more to this than “government workers getting rich”.

Strange melt. Really comes off like you're in a fragile state of mind. Take a hit.

What is your connection and knowledge into the financial structure of the USPS?
Just curious.

specifically, the law requires USPS to prefund all pensions. I don’t know if that’s a good policy or not but it’s the main reason USPS struggles financially.

A postal service is one of only two things that are required to be funded by the US constitution

They lose money because they have to serve everyone at equal price regardless of location

We can cut the entire Department of Education and make all postal service free
