I hope not. I can't fathom why any republican would not want Trump to appoint now and the senate to confirm ASAP. A lot of people think Trump is a fricking retard, and I get it, but this is bigger than him. You can't get to the chalice and not drink.

Worst case scenario is a handful of states ban abortion.

I think Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins vote to confirm.

Only feckless Mitt might side with dems.

Also believe all dems vote as a party in opposition.

they won't crossover, they will just vote present, not the same. 6 would have to vote present in order for there to be a tie, and then Pence would get to break the tie

Murk and Mitt won't. They are both done after this term just running interference. It will come to pence breaking the tie.

I was thinking about it and if Trump nominates a woman all the hold ups from Lisa last time are essentially gone.

I dont see the reason she would vote no on this one. Why would she care about the timing seriously.

If Romney votes against confirming a justice that could end Roe vs. Wade, simply because of a personal dislike for Trump, does that affect his standing in the LDS Church? I seriously would be on the phone with any and every Mormon leader in Utah right now.

It’s still a massive gamble for these republicans who are on the fence. If the vote against the nominee before the election and Trump loses, and the Dems regain the senate, the republican voters in their states will be rightfully pissed. Especially is that new court makes some terrible rulings.

Honestly even if it hurts them at home they have a chance to change the course of the US for a very long time

Senate seats are not worth blowing this chance.

If you have to take one for the team so be it.

I don’t know a single person who voted for Trump last time who isn’t planning on voting for him this time. I know dozens of people (myself included) that refused to vote for him last time but will this time.

The political world shifted over the last few months and RGB’s passing has made this clear. There are no moderates anymore. On either side. A Republican voting against Trump’s nominee to fill a vacancy on the SC weeks before what’s surely going to be one of the most hotly contested elections in history on all levels, is no longer a Republican. He/she is not right of center or center. He/she will have self-identified as a radical Leftist.

I'm trying to figure out how it even gets to a tie. It's 53-45 and 2 independents.

I guess add the 2 to the 45 = 47 no's, if strict party lines. If there's the three being mentioned subtracted from 53, the necessary 51 ain't achieved, nor is it a tie. Unless I screwed up somewhere.

The justification for filling it is a lot easier to make than trying to explain waiting.

What do you get about that assertion? People who think that are fricking brainwashed uneducated fricktards. He can be brash and profane (thankfully, cuz that's what we need right now), but "retard" he is not. That is just projection from the mentally ill losers.

Some please explain to me what are legal ways in which dems can stop this, if all R’s but mittess vote to confirm? When you hear chick and Hillary's threats, what can be done if R’s fall in line?

Not a damn thing I can possibly think of. It's all about the wrangling for the Senate votes as far as I know.

Trump makes a ton of harmful errors. He could be 10x better as president. He is careless with his words. He could hold onto them better and have a ton more power as a leader.the reason he makes those errors is that he is a crazy mfer. Many here agree with at least that last bit.

The majority in the Senate means 51 votes, not just having more votes than the other side.

Right, I mentioned "the necessary 51". Which again, R's starting out at 53, if they lose 3 it's over because neither could a tie occur under those circumstances wherein Veep could settle it.
