The Russian case posits that it could lose up to half of its population. That is a very optimistic projection. But the demographic crisis is coming, and Russia making in-roads in Central Asia makes sense, as well as the Tehran-Moscow axis. That corridor is of utmost importance for both the Iranians and Russians.

The Tatars have done just fine. I mean, we won't see a repeat of what happened to the Circassians in the 1800s, but central Asian integration into Russia will be easier than Mahgrebi integration into France, for example.
