I don't think AOC is as stupid as people think
When she first got in she was wet behind the ears. But she seems to be a different person than the ditz she was a few years ago.
By no means do I think she is some towering intellectual but I think she's smarter than most people giver her credit for. Though I don't care for her political philosophy which is too Bernie aligned.

We at the very least need age limits. We should also require cognitive test to politicians over 60 or 65 to avoid any more Joe Biden situations.
Absolutely. The problem is that the old, greedy, stubborn, power-addicted shitbirds already in congress will never vote for for it.
As long as we're dreaming out loud:
- No older than 70 at any point during their first term.
- Mandatory annual cognitive assessments for those over 60.
- No second terms. They get a single 6-year term in the house and a single 6-year term in the senate (if elected).
- No more damned lawyers.
- No more public funding of elections.
- For house seats, 55% of funds raised must come from individuals and businesses located in said district.
Ever notice how much time these clowns spending campaigning? The last two years of any term are increasingly devoted to re-election.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

As I said, she is far more intelligent than Hank Johnson. The difference in their intellects is vast.

Damn. When you makes AOC look as smart as Einstein or Oppenheimer then you are stupid lol.

Age shouldn't have anything to do with this. You're either intelligent and "with it" or you're not.
I've met 90 year olds who were still more cognizant and sharp than 20 year olds BY FAR.
And that's sad, but it's true. There should be an IQ standard.

While we're just kicking ideas around for fun, I think the shorter terms would be better. If someone runs a great campaign and turns out to be a complete fraud and doesn't represent their constituents it's better to oust them at the ballot box every 2 years than every 6 years.
Then you have the issue of short memories. Someone could have some major blunders in their first 2 years that would be a distant memory in their next 4 years over the course of a six year term.

Shut up, Clark. That guy closing his eyes during a meeting has brought in 18 trillion in foreign investments into this country in a single year. Shatters any record. No other year even comes close.
He is smarter than you and your immediate family combined.

No one wants to admit it but as far as raw intelligence she would probably be in the top 5% if she posted here. We all joke that she's stupid but perhaps that's not the case. Here is a summary of her early life and career from Gemini AI.
quote:
Before her 2018 election to Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) balanced careers in the nonprofit sector, education, and the service industry.
Early Career & Education
Academic Background: She graduated cum laude from Boston University in 2011 with degrees in Economics and International Relations.
Senate Internship: During college, she interned for Senator Ted Kennedy, specifically in his foreign affairs and immigration office. As the only Spanish speaker, she frequently assisted families searching for loved ones detained by ICE.
Scientific Recognition: In high school, she won second place in the 2007 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair for microbiology research. In recognition, MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory named a small asteroid after her: 23238 Ocasio-Cortez.
Service & Nonprofit Work
Service Industry: Following her father’s death in 2008 and the financial crisis, she worked 18-hour shifts as a bartender and waitress in Manhattan (notably at Flats Fix) to help her mother fight the foreclosure of their home.
Education & Leadership: She served as an Educational Director for the National Hispanic Institute, where she led community leadership and college readiness programs for Latinx youth.
Entrepreneurship: She founded Brook Avenue Press, a now-defunct publishing firm dedicated to creating children's literature that portrayed the Bronx in a positive light.
Activism & Political Organizing
2016 Bernie Sanders Campaign: Ocasio-Cortez served as a volunteer organizer for Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign in the South Bronx.
Standing Rock: In late 2016, she traveled to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation to join protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline. She cites this experience as the "tipping point" that inspired her to run for office.
Recruitment: Shortly after her trip to Standing Rock, she was contacted by Brand New Congress, a progressive organization that recruited her to challenge incumbent Joe Crowley while she was still working behind the bar.
I'm not saying that these things make her a genius. But she is certainly above average intelligence. She has some bad ideas but she is far from stupid.

I would be an extremist on the issue. I would add one more to the list you gave. I think every candidate should have to undergo a forensic audit before every election at the expense of the candidate. A politician serving the public should and asking to be elected to public office should have to prove they are not making money illegally or fraudulently. Any incumbent should absolutely have not choice in the matter.

She is not stupid. At least not in the "below 100 IQ and perhaps a retard" sense.
She is dangerous. And she has dangerous ideas. Because of this she seems stupid to people with intelligence. But to people who lack it, she comes across as some sort of genius.
She has wisened up quite a bit over the years too. She has stopped giving the other side soundbytes that make her come across as a blatant idiot.

She may be a case of brainwashing by our higher education system. Poor Hank though is just brain dead.

Perhaps. Everyone is susceptible to being indoctrinated by some entity or individual.
I do think she's much more intelligent and capable than people give her credit for.
And she is probably going to be a serious contender for president in 28 or 32.

No. And that's only because the other side will likely cease to exist by then.
Oh, they WISH she would be. She is one of their "stars". But that's a sinking frickin ship, man. Just look at what is happening.

That wing of the party has all the energy for the Dems. Big John could be a real threat in a General election but the problem for the Dems is he would be crushed in the primaries.

Trump's DOJ and the FBI are opening the door wide open for them right now.
It would be tough to imagine them handling this Epstein saga any worse than they have. They're either corrupt or the most politically stupid group of clowns imaginable.

None of this is working well for them politically. They're going to lose a lot of seats if they don't get things turned around

I used to be against Term Limits because I realized how long it takes for newly elected officials top get up to speed on even major issues, let alone minor ones; a two year House member is in training wheels for their first session, and most of their second.
But then I thought...they do need an absolute cap; maybe 5 terms in the House and 3 terms in the Senate.
Then you start seeing the AOC, Crockett, DeLuaro, Hank Guam, Shelia Jackson Lee gang...and wonder if just keeping the "normal" ones around a while may be the only real safe guard....
