If you remember at the time most people that follow politics closely couldn't figure out why the State Department was so mad about Trump holding up $500 million dollars at the time. The reaction to holding back the money (only ~0.5% of what is being spent in Ukraine today) was disproportional and odd. Regular people started asking, "why is Ukraine so important?"
