Why should regular people care about what’s going on with GameStop.

It does seem to be popping the stocks bubble that has driven our retirement accounts up.

------------

I still can't help but laugh my arse off. It is a big middle finger to the elites.

Because we should point and laugh at the “smartest people in the room” getting bent over by some basement dwellers.

We shouldn't.

If you invest in stocks you actually vet, none of this affects you.

propping up stock bubble

Gamestop is around $20 billion market cap.

Apple, Amazon, etc are near $1Trillion each and are both overvalued.

$20 billion ain't shite.

How. Trillions of dollars have been created through quantitative easing. The M1 money supply has ballooned, especially in the last 10 months. Where do you think this money could possibly be parked other than the stock market. There will be some down days, but I just can't imagine a bear market with the amount of cash that has been printed in the last year.

GameStop stock isn’t going to trigger a market crash.

This is targeted toward a couple specific hedge fund companies.

Most of the stock market is unaffected by this.

Yes, some funds were short and lost a ton of money. Others were long. 70% of Gamestop was institutionally owned. 13% of Gamestop (GME) common was owned by Blackrock alone.

The media is portraying this as a strike against the Wallstreet elite. That's embarrassingly incomplete. It's unclear whether financial media doesn't understand the market or doesn't care about nuisance.

it has the potential to destabilize the public's trust that the system is secure and robust.

very similar to the way the recent election has done for our politics.

you can see how afraid they are by the drastic countermeasures taken in both cases

It's just a good reminder that a small group of powerful wealthy people view it as their right to control everything and get really pissed off when anything interferes with that arrangement.
