Because Zelenskyy doesn’t want to talk peace while he’s being funded and armed by the United States and Europe. Zelenskyy holds out hope of reclaiming lost territory which experience shows is a pipe dream.

We're not funding Russia with money and arms. We aren't paying Russian citizens social security each month.
We are doing that for Ukraine. Ukraine has only lasted this long because of us propping them up. Ukraine is the country we have a say in, considered how much money we've thrown their way. Zelensky is refusing to even entertain the notion of peace talks. Of stopping the war. He expects us to prop them up forever.

oh, wait.... that's the only choice. No way in hell China allies with the USA against Russia.
Trump knows this. Imagine a world, if you can, where Russia moves to a more Democratic government and becomes a valuable trading partner and ally. Now try to do the same with China. You can't. You know the they are the real threat to the USA, so why can't you understand what Trump is doing? Trump is trying to make the world a better market. Or China will end up ruling everyone, at least economically, if not militarily.
